News for April and May 2019

Our students at WLE will participate in several state required tests aligned with the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards. The 3rd –6th grade students have worked extremely hard to do their best on the MAAP (Mississippi Academic Assessment Program). We know they are going to perform well on the test. Also, Pre-k and Kindergarten students have prepared themselves during the year to take the MKAS2 Readiness Assessment. The 3rd-6th grade students are looking forward to taking the MAAP test.

Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP)

The Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) is designed to measure student achievement on the Mississippi College-and Career-Readiness Standards (MS CCRS) for English Language Arts and Mathematics and to provide valid and reliable results to guide instruction through data-driven instruction. The MAAP will assess students in grades 3-8 in English Language Arts and Mathematics, Algebra I, and English II. For more information, visit https://www.mdek12.org/OSA/MAAP

Mississippi K-3 Assessment Support System (MKAS2)

The Kindergarten Readiness Assessment is designed to measure how well Pre-K programs prepared four-year-olds to be ready for kindergarten based upon the Mississippi Early Learning Standards for Classrooms Serving Four-Year-Old Children. The Kindergarten Readiness Assessment data will provide parents, teachers, and early childhood providers with an understanding of what children know and are able to do upon entering Kindergarten. Assessment data will also be used to help improve the quality of classroom instruction and determine interventions and services that students need. For more information, visit http://www.mde.k12.ms.org/OSA/MKAS2

Literacy-Based Promotion Act

The Literacy-Based Promotion Act places an emphasis on grade-level reading skills for students, particularly as they progress through K-3 grades. A student scoring at the lowest achievement level in reading on the established state assessment for the 3rd grade will not be promoted to 4th grade unless the student meets good cause exemptions for promotion.

Note: 3rd-grade students, who do not meet the Literacy-Based Promotion Act requirements after taking the initial MKAS2 Reading Summative Assessment, will have the opportunity to retake the assessment to achieve the goals for promotion to 4th grade.
