Clinton Elementary School
The Bear Facts!
May 21, 2021
Dear Clinton Families,
Last week I sent a letter explaining that we went into a Code Yellow, or Shelter in Place, due to a woman on campus who was prohibited from being on Clinton property. She was quickly apprehended by the Maplewood Police Department. It is an active investigation. A huge thank you to the Maplewood Police Department for their response. Also, a huge thank you to our staff and students who quickly moved into the Code Yellow. A Code Yellow is something that we practice and allows instruction to continue. A Code Yellow also allows us to put restrictions in place within the school setting as needed. For example, we called a Code Yellow when the woman was noticed outside of the building. We modified the Code Yellow when she was apprehended, allowing movement within the building but not allowing classes outside. When the incident is finished, we release the Code Yellow or all the restrictions. I hope that this helps to give you a window into what a Code Yellow looks like.
Due to the nature of the incident, we will be having two security guards on campus for the remainder of the school year from Wisdom Protective Services, the same company that supplies security for our Secondary Schools. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out at jconnors@somsd.k12.nj.us. Thank you for all of your support.
Until we are all together in person again, we remain #Clintonstrong
Fondly, Jennifer Connors, Principal & Zoila Correa, Assistant Principal
