5H Weekly News
9th April 2016
Dear Parents,
With less than two months of 5th grade left, we have much to do. These months will be busy, but there will also be plenty of enjoyable activities for the students to take part in.
Please be aware that the final session of MAP testing will begin at the end of the month. We will have our Reading test on April 29th. We have been working on reading skills in class, but please also ask your child to read at home and discuss it to consolidate understanding.
The final Scholastic Book Club catalog for this year will be sent home with students tomorrow. There are lots of books that will inspire even the most reluctant readers to keep turning the pages! Please read the message below from our ES Scholastic Book Club coordinator:
Our new Scholastic Book Club is up and running! Go to http://world-schools.scholastic.co.uk/seoul-foreign-school-elem to browse the latest books and order online. This will be the last book club for this academic year. For every $1 you spend on this month’s Book Club, our class will earn 20¢ in Scholastic Rewards.
Please place your order online by April 18th, 2016, 5pm.
Enjoy your weekend!
Warmly,
Hyanne (SFS ESPTA Scholastic/Library/Book Fair Coordinator; 3S Room Mom; Mom to Emily (6W) and Justin (3S) Kim)

10-Minute Teach Presenters and Topics
Well Done Everyone!
The Week Ahead
Your children should have brought home their most recent assessment, about angles, for you to go through together. This week we will be starting a new unit about properties of triangles and four-sided figures. We will begin by classifying triangles and identifying different types of angles within triangles. Don't forget that there are some optional extra practice and enrichment resources on the Math page of our class Pagoda site.
Writing
Students will be researching and writing information reports and booklets over the next few weeks. We will dive in this week, and will focus on The Solar System for our first piece of guided writing. We are working towards being prepared to write reports for Science Fair projects.
Science
We are learning about robotics, with a focus on how robotics can be used in prosthetics. We will be using Lego Mindstorms for this unit.
Reading
Groups have started reading new novels that are selected by Lexile level. Students will be involved in group discussions and activities relating to their text. This will cover comprehension within and beyond the text. As I read with them, we will also focus on fluency, expression, and accuracy.
Some of our moms that came to help out at the Easter Celebration. Special thanks to Sally Shim for organizing the event!
