CHARACTER CORNER
A self-disciplined person is able to control his or her own behavior..
“With self-discipline, most everything is possible.” - Theodore Roosevelt
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Bumpus Family,
If you drive afternoon carpool, you've noticed that we added a third lane for student pick-up. In doing so, we shaved FIVE minutes off of our carpool time. We hope to continue to improve upon this afternoon pick-up process. Please make sure your child is looking for you in the afternoons, if riding carpool.
For my bus riders, please remember that riding the bus is a privilege. Follow all procedures so that you can continue to enjoy this privilege.
We are so excited that our virtual students are off to a great start. We all seemed to have gotten adjusted to the demands of virtual learning. The teachers enjoy their "brown bag" lunch meets and other meeting dates.
According to information reported on the ADHP dashboard, HCS had only five new employee COVID positive cases and six new student COVID positive cases for the week of 10/20/20 to 10/27/20. I think that is amazing for a district our size. Tracking information can also be found on our HCS website. Continue to keep your child home if they are not feeling well and/or have a temperature. It's better to be safe than sorry. Students, continue to wear your facial covering for your mouth AND your nose. These precautions are what will allow us to continue to come to a physical school.
Our F2F and FTV students are busy, busy, busy Bowling, Wrestling, Running (Indoor Track & Field) and Dribbling. I'm proud of their involvement in activities beyond academics. However, I have to commend the students who were inducted into the Bumpus National Junior Honor Society on Wednesday. Although the induction looked incredibly different from what we're accustomed to, I think we were able to provide the students with an experience they will proudly reflect on in years to come.

NEWS FROM OUR COUNSELORS
The word gratitude is derived from the Latin word gratia, which means grace, graciousness, or gratefulness . In some ways, gratitude encompasses all of these meanings. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible. With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives. In the process, people usually recognize that the source of that goodness lies, at least, partially outside themselves. As a result, gratitude also helps people connect to something larger than themselves as individuals — whether to other people, nature, or a higher power.
In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness and satisfaction in life. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, have good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.
This year has been unusually stressful and challenging for all of us. During this season, gratitude can help us through the tough times and ease our stress.
Here are some ways to cultivate gratitude on a regular basis.
Write a thank-you note. You can make yourself happier and nurture your relationship with another person by writing a thank-you letter expressing your enjoyment and appreciation of that person's impact on your life. Send it, or better yet, deliver and read it in person if possible. Make a habit of sending at least one gratitude letter a month. Once in a while, write one to yourself.
Thank someone mentally. No time to write? It may help just to think about someone who has done something nice for you, and mentally thank the individual.
Keep a gratitude journal. Make it a habit to write down or share with a loved one thoughts about the gifts you've received each day.
Count your blessings. Pick a time every week to sit down and write about your blessings — reflecting on what went right or what you are grateful for. Sometimes it helps to pick a number — such as three to five things — that you will identify each week. As you write, be specific and think about the sensations you felt when something good happened to you.
