What is Cyberbullying?
"The use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature."
Facts and statistics
- Over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online, and about the same number have engaged in cyber bullying.
- More than 1 in 3 young people have experienced cyberthreats online.
- Over 25 percent of adolescents and teens have been bullied repeatedly through their cell phones or the Internet.
- Well over half of young people do not tell their parents when cyber bullying occurs.
Prevention
For the students:
- Block/Ignore the person doing the bullying.
- Leave the page that you are on.
- Know the sites that your child visits.
- Have a sense of what they do online and in texts.
- Ask to friend or follow your kids on social media.
Reporting Cyberbulling
When you feel you are being bullied or harassed on the internet, tell a trusted adult like a parent or teacher. If the bully has a profile, report their profile for harassment.
