April Edition
Message from the Principal
Greetings,
We have made it to April, which is the beginning of the end of school. With April also comes the end-of-grade Milestones testing for our third, fourth, and fifth graders. These assessments begin the week of April 24, with English Language Arts on April 24, 25, and 26. Math will follow on May 1 and 2. Science will be on May 4 for fifth graders only. Testing will begin each day at 9 am. If your child is participating in these assessments, please ensure they are here at school on time so they can eat breakfast before the assessments begin. Getting a good night’s sleep is essential so students feel ready to do their best. Devices must be off and stored away from students during testing, so they are best left at home during testing.
April also brings our Title I Planning Meeting. This meeting is your opportunity to give your input about where we need to focus our Title I money. We hope you will join us on April 25 at 6:00 to help make decisions about our future.
We also have other exciting events coming up in April and May. I know time will fly as we move closer to the last day of school on May 25.
Warmest regards,
Melissa Madsen
Elementary e-Tips for Parents
Chores help children learn to handle responsibility
To encourage responsibility with chores, make sure your child has the skills and supplies necessary for the tasks. Next, consider your child's energy level; schedule chore time for a time when your elementary schooler isn't tired or busy. Then, let your child choose a chore from your list. Expect a good effort and timely completion, but don't require perfection. Just thank your child for helping the family!
Help your child feel capable of doing hard things
Some kids are willing to try hard, even if the work is tough. Others give up before they get started. What's the difference? It's the kids who believe in their ability to succeed who stick with it. Make it clear that your child has what it takes to do well in school. Then remind your student that ability without effort won't get the job done. The combination gives your child the power to achieve goals.
