EVENING HOMEWORK HELP STARTING AUGUST 21ST SENIOR CAMPUS 5:30-7:30 P.M.

Big picture

AP TESTING:

Students in Advanced Placement (AP) classes are receiving join codes from their AP teachers in classes now. Students MUST join their teacher's college board AP classroom using this join code in order to test in May. Additionally, beginning September 1, parents/students must pay for AP exams through school cash online. Deadline to pay for exams is October 30, 2023.

Students may only have ONE College Board account (if student has taken the PSAT/SAT or another AP test, they already have an account). DO NOT create a new college board account if you are unsure. If students have issues with their College Board account, parents/students must contact College Board at https://support.collegeboard.org/help-center/account-help. The school cannot help students with College Board accounts.

Please find additional information at: https://twhs.conroeisd.net/ap-testing/

Contact Assistant Principal Laura Braun at LBraun@conroeisd.net with any Advanced Placement Testing questions.

ATHLETICS:

BOYS BASKETBALL: Boys basketball has already begun preparing for the 2023-24 season. We have strength and conditioning Mon-Thur, right after school at the main campus. We will be competing in a Fall league and a few shootouts as well. Please go to our website www.highlanderbasketball.org for more information.

TENNIS: The Highlander tennis team opened the season with a convincing 14-5 victory over the Katy Jordan Knights. TWHS netters opened District play this Saturday @ Oak Ridge at 8:00 a.m. The Highlander tennis team is ranked #4 in State 6A in the latest TTCA Coaches poll.

CLINIC NOTES:

Your nurses this year are Alana Ansley at the Senior Campus, aransley@conroeisd.net or 936-709-1076, and Erica Falcon at the Ninth Grade Campus, efalcon@conroeisd.net or 832-592-8209. Our clinic hours are 7:00-3:00 on school days. We are looking forward to a happy and healthy year with your students, and truly appreciate the donations of snacks and feminine hygiene supplies that parents have given us!

● As we are completing enrollment for this school year, we will be emailing or sending letters home if your student has any overdue vaccines or expiring Conscientious Objector exemptions. If you receive one of those letters, please take care of any missing vaccines promptly so that your student may remain enrolled.

● If your student requires any medications while they are on campus, they must be checked in to the clinic or athletic trainers by a parent or guardian. All medications must be in their original, labeled container, unexpired, and we ask that you provide no more than a 30-day supply. We highly encourage students to carry their own Epi-Pen or inhaler; those do need to be accompanied by a form that is completed by your doctor each school year. This self-carry form must also be provided to the clinic to be kept on file throughout the school year. You can find those forms on our clinic website: https://twhs.conroeisd.net/departments/department-home/clinic/

● Please continue to self-report any positive student COVID cases in the COVID application (in the student SSO). We are still requiring students who test positive to stay home for 5 days after their first day of symptoms, and they may return on day 6 as long as they have improving symptoms and have been fever-free for at least 24 hours. There is no need for close contacts to quarantine unless they are symptomatic.

● Feel free to follow us on our Instagram account, @twhsclinic.

CLUB NEWS:

CLUB SPORTS: Parents, do you have an athlete in Club sports such as Lacrosse, Hockey, or Rugby this school year? If your athlete is in need of PE credit, please have them sign up in the Grade Level Office for our Club Sports Meeting. We will meet in LGI 1 on Wednesday, August 30th, during advisory. The application process and requirements to obtain PE credit will be discussed with your athlete. Applications are due on October 2nd. Late entry or late applications will not be granted PE credit.

DESTINATION IMAGINATION: Destination Imagination will be holding an informational meeting to form new teams for the 2023-24 season. If you would like to solve open-ended, STEAM-focused challenges, please join us in Room 221 on Thursday, August 24th from 2:45-3:30 p.m. Freshman are welcome to use the shuttle to join us.

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS: Calling all adventurers! The Dungeons and Dragons Club will be hosting meetings every Wednesday until 4 p.m. in Room 231. We accept players of all classes and experience levels. If you have any questions, feel free to email Mrs. Rickman (emrickman@conroeisd.net) or stop by Room 231.

INTERACT CLUB: TWHS Interact Club, in association with Rotary, is a fun and rewarding community service club. With this year's focus in promoting clean water and sanitation, this club is committed to bettering the community by volunteering in all different walks of life. With a student led officer team and experienced sponsors, we can't wait to kick off this school year with our first meeting on August 22 in the LGI 1 at 2:45 p.m. on the Senior Campus. Our freshmen meetings will be on the freshmen campus in the mornings before school on the same day as Senior Campus meetings. See you there!

MEET IN THE MIDDLE: MEET IN THE MIDDLE kicks off in September! Our first meeting of the year will be held on Monday, September 11th, at 2:30 p.m. in Room 107. Meet in the Middle is a club that brings students with intellectual disabilities together with their typically developing peers for activities that center around fun, fitness, and friendship. At the kickoff, we will have pizza, drinks, and lots of other snacks! EVERYONE is welcome to join. Mrs. Maberry (dmaberry@conroeisd.net) sponsors the club and can answer any questions you have.

SCUBA CLUB: Welcome back to school! Scuba Club at TWHS is for ANYONE interested in scuba diving—you do NOT have to be certified to be a member; we can help you with the process of learning to dive! We are trying something new this year. We know everyone has a lot on their calendars with multiple clubs and activities after school most days. Instead of having regular monthly meetings, we will have just a few during the year, but they will be good ones—guest speakers, show and tell, and snacks! Most of our club business will be conducted via our GroupMe chat. Search for “Scuba Club at TWHS” and request permission to join. Our club President, senior Alexander Bleakley, will coordinate events for us such as a Fall Dive Meetup at one of our local scuba locations (for those already scuba certified) and a “Try Scuba” Event at Woodlands Dive Center (for those interested in learning more and trying out the equipment in their practice pool). All of this will happen on GroupMe so join soon! We also have a website, www.scuba-twhs.com, with information and photos from previous events.

STUDENT COUNCIL: Student Council is off to a fast start this year. We helped with Kilt Camps and Orientations on both campuses the week before school started. Senior Student Council Officers organized car painting the day before school started and bring your childhood backpack for the first week of school for the Class of 2024. Looking forward to our first Pep Rally on August 25th - Back to the Beach. If interested in Student Council, our next meeting is on Monday, August 28th at 6:00 p.m. in the Senior Campus Cafeteria. Any questions, please email Kristen Gartner at kgartner@conroeisd.net, Senior Campus, or Jill Parsley at jhart@conroeisd.net, Freshman Campus.

TABLE TENNIS CLUB: Table Tennis Club meets in Room 216 from 2:45-3:45 p.m. Save the following dates: August 15, 17, 21, 23, 29, 31, Sept 5, 7, 11, 13, 19, 21, 25 & 27. Beginners welcome!
