Dear Charlemagne Families:
Hope everyone enjoyed their two days off this week! We are looking forward to a lot of events the next few weeks, so please scroll down to learn more and hope you can join us.
Next PTO Meeting
We invite everyone to join us for our first PTO meeting on October 15 at 6:30 pm in Room 1. Your involvement is critical to the success of all our children, so we would love to have as many parents involved as possible. Please come join us! Childcare will be available.
Parent Equity Conversation
The first Parent Equity Conversation group meeting will be held on Monday, October 28 at 6:30 pm in Room 1. The purpose of the group is to encourage dialog about equity and social justice, promote an inclusive school community, and foster a safe and healthy school climate. We look forward to your participation, curiosity, and deep engagement in the topics.
Just a reminder that on Friday, October 18, we have school pictures in the gym in the morning. We could use parent volunteers to help! Please let us know if you’re able to lend a hand on that day by volunteering at SignupGenius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f45afad2dabf58-picture
Our health screening will take place this year on Friday, October 25. Please also let us know if you are available to volunteer at this event. Students will receive eye and dental exams along with a hearing screening. If we detect any concerns or have important information to share, Lourie Morgan, our school nurse, will be in contact with families.
On October 31, we will have a Halloween parade at the school. More details to follow as it gets closer… please see below for a few reminders about costumes and school climate below.

A quick reminder about Halloween…
October 31 celebrations are just around the corner and we're looking forward to a safe and fun parade event at the beginning of the day! Your student will report to class as usual and the parade will commence shortly after the first bell. Families are welcome to view the parade in the open space between the upper K/3 hallway and the lower 1/2 hallway.
For any reason, if you would prefer that your child not participate in the parade, you may bring them to school between 9:00 and 9:15 am. The tardy will be excused. In addition, we will be offering an alternative activity in the gym during the parade if arriving late is not an option.
As Halloween approaches and you are considering costumes for the optional school parade on Thursday, October 31, please follow the guidelines below:
Halloween Parade Dress Code:
• No weapons or weapon-like props
• No dress as another ethnicity, race, religion or culture that is not your own
• No especially scary or gory costumes-- please think of our kinder students!
• Masks must be taken off after the parade and stay off for the remainder of the day.
• If you are not sure about the appropriateness of a costume, please ask Madame Courtney.
Your student should not dress as another person’s race, religion or culture. A costume can be of a character or an individual who is of another race/religion/culture than your child, but not of a generalized race or ethnicity religion or culture. Costumes should not be caricatures of any group. Students will be asked to change clothes for inappropriate attire.
Please note that students will still have recess and any other activities they regularly have on a Thursday. Please send them with a coat, proper shoes, etc. so that they can participate fully in the rest of the school day.
We're looking forward to a safe, respectful and fun Halloween!
