Week 4 - Term 2 (Thursday 21 May)
St Jerome’s Primary School acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Owners and Elders, both past and present, of the lands on which this school is located.
Dear Parents and members of our school community
A Prayer for Our Uncertain Times
May we who are merely inconvenienced, remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors, remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of still having a job, remember those who must choose between preserving their health and finding their rent.
May we who have to cancel our trips remember those who have no safe place to go.
May we who see our superannuation savings decline in the tumult of the economic market, remember those who have no savings at all.
May we who return to a safe home each night; remember those who have no home.
As fear grips some in our society, let us choose love, understanding and patience.
And during this time when we may not be able to physically wrap our arms around each other, let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.
Amen.

At this time, even if we cannot get to church for Mass, we can pray at home. Here are some ways we can pray creatively.
Praying through Music
Find a quiet time and put on even five minutes of restful music. Thank God for all the positive things in your life.
Praying with Art
We can pray through drawing, colouring, and/or painting. It's something that can be done by anyone including children. We can pray with art when we want to pray even with no words or when we can't seem to sit still. Maybe our mind wanders instead of staying focused in prayer. By praying with art, our hands, arms and body become part of our prayer and it's like we just hang out with God. God knows what is in our hearts and our minds.
Imaginative Prayer
In this form of prayer, we can imagine ourselves in Bible stories. It's a great way for children to pray! The praying person becomes a person in the story - the healing of the blind man, for example. We, as the blind man feel the heat of the sun, smell the passing animals, hear the noise of the crowd, then hear Jesus as he comes, heals our blindness, and argues wit the angry Pharisees.
Enjoy these pictures of the many creative ways our students reflect upon God, Our Lady, showing kindness and the Creation Story.

RE News
The feast day of Mary Help of Christians (May 24) has been celebrated in Australia since 1844 but the history to this day dates back to the start of the 1800s.
Napoleon Bonaparte had jailed Pius VI who died in jail. When Pope Pius VII was elected he too was jailed by Bonaparte, who kept him prisoner at Fontainbleau, France.
The Holy Father vowed to God that if he were restored to the Roman See, he would institute a special feast in honour of Mary.
The military eventually forced Bonaparte to release the Pope and on May 24, 1814, Pius VII returned in triumph to Rome.
Twelve months later the Pope decreed that the feast of Mary Help of Christians be kept on 24 May.
The infant Church in Australia had a special reason for turning to Mary. In those early and mostly priestless days, it was largely the Rosary that kept the faith alive. Catholic Australia remained faithful to Mary, and was the first nation to choose her, under the title of Help of Christians, as Principal Patron.
On line Information - "Think u know" website for online child safety information
A large number of our students are accessing online video games for long periods of time on a regular basis. Many of the games are recommended for 12 and above and this includes the very popular and addictive, Fortnite.
I have included a parental fact sheet, related to child safety on Fortnite.
ThinkUKnow
https://thinkuknow.org.au/ Thinkuknow is a partnership between the Australian Federal Police, Commonwealth Bank, Datacom and Microsoft, and delivered in partnership with all State and Territory police and Neighbourhood Watch Australasia.
ThinkUKnow is a national program delivering online child safety information in schools and organisations to parents, carers, teachers and students from the first year of school to Year 12.
The ThinkUKnow program gives parents, carers, teachers and students information on how to stay safe online. Topics included within the presentations are specifically aimed at educating and increasing awareness about online child sexual exploitation including avoiding unwanted contact, online grooming, self generated content, sexual extortion and how to get help.
Making Jesus Real (MJR) Focus: Tolerance, Understanding and Patience – (TUP)
Delta Goodrem, in her song “Born to Try”, mentions “understanding” four times.
We all crave to be understood, but we all have to understand ourselves! To understand ourselves we have to be tolerant and patient. Sometimes we get frustrated that we are making the same mistakes and as in the song , Born to Try”, “we remove the clouds and look at the bigger picture”.
When we become tolerant and patient with ourselves, then hopefully, we become tolerant and patient with others. Each day at home and at school you will find examples of people being intolerant, impatient and showing misunderstanding – you just have to listen to the way some people speak to others and yet these people what us to be patient and understanding of them!
Wouldn’t our immediate world – our home, our school and our community be a better place if these three qualities were more a part of our lives?

Backyard (or Indoor) Obstacle Course!
Rev up the backyard (or the living room if your yard is small) by creating an obstacle course! Take advantage of anything you may already have in the backyard, like a cubby house, swing set, monkey bars or basketball/netball hoops, and bring other elements into play, like outdoor chairs and tables, sporting gear (think boogie boards, skipping ropes, cricket sets and a variety of balls, racquets and other accessories) and even things stashed in the garage like outdoor brooms on tins of paint as hurdles, old pot plants to dodge around and the garden hose to balance along.
Design your obstacle course with a start and end point (you may decide to incorporate multiple laps of the course!) lay out your obstacles to create the right level of difficulty for your nature players, create your own medals or trophies for the winners (the recycling should have some excellent cardboard to use) and get ready for some fun! Have your obstacle course runners dress up in their very best ‘professional athlete’ gear, make sure the event marshall is ready with the stopwatch, get a cheer squad involved, and make a big event of it!
If the idea of an obstacle course inside the house is too much to consider, maybe create a smaller version for a favourite teddy to take part in? Use Lego, building blocks, books, cushions and even tins of food from the pantry to set up your course, then create a spectator section of toys to cheer your teddy on!

Administration of School (AoS) - A new computer system for CEWA schools
Our school will be changing to a new computer system – Administration of School (AoS). This is an initiative by the Catholic Education (WA) to provide uniformity throughout the Catholic schools in Western Australia.
Part of the process of changing to AoS is ensuring that the school has all the information on students needed for this migration. If you have received an email over the last few weeks asking for a copy of your child’s immunisation statement or your family Medicare number, please ensure that you have supplied the school with this information. Thank you to those parents who have already provided this information.
Have you been receiving our school emails and SMS messages? You can update your email or mobile contact details by sending an email to the school at admin@stjeromes.wa.edu.au If you would like to update your emergency contacts please advise the school office.
We thank you for your assistance in providing this information.
