Trumbauersville Times
October 10th, 2022
Dear Trumbauersville Families,
I hope that you and your family are able to make some time to get outdoors and to enjoy the nice stretch of fall weather
In our ongoing support of our students, I also want to talk with families about the some very rough play at recess and the influences of some shows that revolve around fighting. These shows have sparked fighting at recess. Lately, our school teachers and I have been working to repair a lot of negative student interactions that have been sparked by violent youtube video and TV shows focused on fighting.
You may remember that I previously talked about these two main videos that have been impacting our students: Poppy Playtime (Huggy Wuggy) and Super Mario Logan and Jeffy the puppet. More recently, we have seen two TV shows that have transferred into problematic recess behavior: Cobra Kai and Naruto.
Technology and digital media are ever-present in society and in our lives and yield many positives. It is our role as parents/guardians and educators to help our young students to understand them and to navigate them appropriately. I respectfully ask all of our families to lean into this process and actively support our students’ positive use of technology and of TV shows that are developmentally appropriate for students. For further resources in this area, our QCSD Technology Department has this list of resources available to families.
At school, we continue to build our caring school community and to focus on appropriate play at recess and interactions during the day. This can only be accomplished in partnership with families at home.
Again, I hope this letter finds you well and on the eve of a nice fall weekend with your family. Thank you for your continued support of our school! Please take some time to read through our newsletter for more information.
Sincerely,
-Adam
