Abound Parenting Newsletter (Kindergarten)
Abound Parenting- Hathaway News
Using Abound to build reading skills in small moments each day
* This week’s academic vocabulary word is DESIGN. Here are 2 ways to
give your child extra opportunities to hear and use the word DESIGN!
* Do you think people have DESIGNED houses that are really tall with one
room on each floor, or houses that are really wide with all the rooms on
one floor? Which would be a better house DESIGN for you? Why?
* Could you DESIGN a leash for a person who has 3 dogs of all different
sizes? What would you want to consider when DESIGNING that leash?
* Remind your child that the word DESIGN means to draw a plan for
something you want to make or build. A DESIGN is also a
decorative pattern, often a shape that is repeated.
* How else can you build your child’s reading skills through TALK?
Try these questions taken from different TalkOn age groups this week!
* When Michelangelo painted that beautiful ceiling, he did it with a lot of
____________. Can we think of a rhyme for ceiling to end the sentence?
(Feeling – Find a photo of Michelangelo's painting on the Sistine Chapel’s
ceiling and see what we mean!)̈
* Often artists pick important moments in history as the subjects for their
paintings, such as when George Washington crossed the Delaware
River during the Revolutionary War. If you were going to draw a picture
of an important moment in your life, what would you draw?
* Some artists paint and paint for years without getting much approval or
attention from anyone. How do you think they keep doing what they do?

Asynchronous Learning
Students who need to quarantine will be provided with asynchronous distance learning. All teachers are prepared to have daily assignments and accompanying materials available for students on a regular basis. If an entire class is asked to quarantine, synchronous learning will be available to the entire class. Materials pick up may be scheduled.
Teachers will be sharing login procedures with students and families. It is important that your child is familiar with Google Classroom and how to access the necessary lessons. This will make for an easy transition if your child is asked to quarantine.
Accessing Aspen
If you are having issues accessing Aspen, you will have to email familyportal@portsmouthschoolsri.org with your child's name, date of birth, grade level, and your name. The system administrators will be able to restore access to your account and make sure that you can login.
