Scott 6th Grade Center's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
What Has Been Happening in Dr. Young's Classes?
First semester, the classes created their very own puppet shows using the greeting/goodbye expressions and introductory conversation phrases in Spanish. We ended the first semester with practicing and memorizing the Spanish alphabet and students created their very own Alphabet Books in Spanish. This marking period we have been working on learning the months of the year in Spanish, along with the four seasons and days of the week. We are finishing this study with a creative project where students will be creating original songs, memory matching games, word art, or a calendar collage! The classes have been doing a great job with improving their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Spanish!

Superbowl Spirit Week
Students and staff enjoyed the spirit week that student council planned. Enjoy some pictures of the fun!
Reading Royals Field Trip
Students and staff had a wonderful time attending the educational day at the Santander Arena in Reading to watch the Reading Royals play.
Second Quarter PBIS Reward
Students that had no behavior referrals for the 2nd quarter got to celebrate with some fun at the end of the day on Friday. Students moved through 3 stations: bingo in the cafeteria, games in the gym, and watching "Wipeout" in the Auditorium. 82% of our students were able to participate in the celebrations which is up from 77% in the 1st quarter. We are hoping our third quarter celebrations will have even more students participating.
Kindness Challenge
February 1st was the kickoff for a kindness challenge for our students. This will last for the month of February.
The students were given a checklist. The challenge is to complete the kindness acts and get the signatures of the people for whom they do the acts for, to verify that it was done. Papers will be collected each Friday by Student Council and hearts will be placed on the wall for each category each student completes.
If the students fill the cafeteria wall with hearts, they will earn a movie. When they complete all of the tasks, the students will place their sheet in the box in the cafeteria for a random drawing for an individual prize at the end of each week. Five students will win each week.
The overall goal, of course, is to add more love and kindness to our amazing school and to show our students just how much helping others can provide a warm, fuzzy feeling that wants to be repeated.
Black History Month
February is Black History Month. At Scott we will be celebrating and learning about a different influential person each morning. On Fridays there will be a trivia question to answer for a prize. This week we learned about Shirley Chisholm, George Washington Carver, Katherine Johnson, and Percy Julian. Students and staff are looking forward to learning about and appreciating these important historical figures.

The fundraiser is currently running and will go through Feb. 20th . 40%-50% of the proceeds will go directly to the students attending the trip. Please consider supporting our students as they have been working incredibly hard this year. Please use the link or QR code below to purchase either candy tins or chocolate boxes. Nurse's Corner
- Only 30% of physicals have been submitted to the nurse. Please take your student to their PCP for a well check and immunization update. All students need a Tdap (after age 10 ) and Meningitis vaccine to attend 7th grade.
- All health screenings have been completed. Any student who failed their vision screening was mailed a referral to have an evaluation by an eye specialist. If you need help making an appointment or your student refuses to wear their glasses, please let me know. The referral form, after the eye exam, needs to be returned to the school nurse.
- The Mobile Dentist is coming to Scott 3/7/24. Please register on-line : https://www.myschooldentist.com/SMCAPA_schsrm or complete the consent form being sent home this weekend return to the school nurse
- Gentle reminder: Hygiene, please continue to monitor your students showering and clean clothes choices. As their bodies change, so do their hygiene needs.
- Three student nurses from Immaculata University are completing their Community Nurse Clinical here at Scott. They are scheduled to be with me on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until March 30th.
- Some families have reached out to ask about making an appointment at ChesPenn. Please use this link. https://chespenn.org/how-to-make-an-appointment/
