Message from the Principal

I cannot believe that we are just days away from ACPs. I suppose the old adage about how time flies when you are having fun really applies. I have worked in quite a few schools, but I honestly cannot remember ever enjoying my job as much as I do this year. Every day I see teachers committed to growing themselves and their students. It is an honor and a privilege to work with each of you.

Keep up the good work!

Shooting Stars

We want to give a special shout out to some of our stars who have really shone extra bright!

Ms. Leal- Ms. Leal has been working tirelessly to help get us ready for ACPs. Her dedication to a job well done is unsurpassed. Thank you Ms. Leal

Ms. Briggs, Ms. Stuart and Ms. Schenck- These three teachers have been extremely proactive in working with struggling students. They have been relentless with a few students who have needed a lot of attention to get on the right track. This tyoe of commitment to students and to the pursuit of excellence is exactly what makes Silberstein such a great school. Way to go!!

Our 3 key priorities for this year:

Reduce the achievement gap between Gen Ed students and Dual language students-

Gen Ed 3rd-5th grade students have been meeting 3 times per week to focus on creating a culture of excellence. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we meet in the cafeteria to to develop a mindset among students that focuses on habits of mind and habits of work that will get them ready for the rigors of college.

Improve Purposeful Aligned Instruction - We are seeing continuous growth in the effectiveness of instruction. Teacher's lessons are well aligned to the context and rigors students must demonstrate by the end of the year.

Improve the efficacy of professional development -Today will be our last PD for the semester. Next Monday we will give teachers a well deserved break. Monday, January 4th will be a teacher work day. We will set aside Tuesday, January 5th for analysis of ACP data. We will continue to use our Gap Analysis and Vertical Team Feedback protocols.

4th six weeks Interim Assessments

As mentioned in a previous e-mail, we have decided to push back the due date for IA 4 until January 4th. However, please be mindful of how time consuming it can be to create a rigorous assessment. You and your team may want to get most or all of the work done before the break. This way you can relax for the entire 2 weeks.

We will have grade levels exchange assessments for feedback the first week we return to school.

ACPs will begin on 12/10. We will take one assessment each day. The assessments will take approximately 2 hours each day in the morning. To allow all teachers a planning period each day, we will run a compressed specials schedule once testing is completed each day. The schedule for assessments is listed below:

Dec. 10th-3-5 Social Studies

Dec. 11-3-5 Language Arts

Dec. 14-3-5 Science

Dec. 15-K-5 Reading

Dec. 16-K-5 Math
