Is abnormal cell division that results in extra genetic material from chromosome 21. It is autosomal and Its is the most common genetic chromosomal disorder. The onset of this disorder occurs before birth with a life span of 50 to 60 years old. There are more females with downs syndrome then males
Symptoms/characteristics
- flattened features
- small head
- short neck
- poor muscle tone
- short height
- upward slanted eyes
- cognitive delays
- late tooth growth
- boys and girls are effected equally
The extra chromosome is in the 21 pair
