IDLL Summer Workshop
Inquiry into Disciplinary Literacy and Learning
What is Disciplinary Literacy and IDLL?
Disciplinary Literacy means ways of reading, writing, thinking, and being for the purpose of disciplinary inquiry.
Being literate in a discipline means one can construct knowledge, and communicate knowledge of the discipline.
Disciplinary Literacy is shaped by the norms, purposes, audiences, and epistemologies of the discipline.
IDLL is fulfilling:
- A need to come together around literacy in each discipline
- A need to be updated in recent research and best practices around literacy in the disciplines
- A need to utilize the amazing resources near us- our work is influenced by the research and practice of Dr. Elizabeth Moje at UM and Dr. Cathy Fleischer at EMU
