Robert E. Lee
Who was the greatest war hero in American History? One of them happens to be Robert E. Lee, who was the confederate commander during the Civil War. On January 19, 1807, Robert E. Lee was born into the world in Stratford Hall close to Montross, Virginia. Also, it so happens that Robert E. Lee's father, Henry Lee, was a well known Revolutionary War hero. Also during the Civil War, Robert E. Lee lead the confederate forces and ended up surrendering to Ulysses S. Grant. Earlier in life, Robert E. Lee took part in the U.S Military Academy at West Point and when the U.S Mexican War broke out, he served as an assistant in the engineer's office. During Lee's lifetime, important events including The Mexican War and The Civil War took place. Although Robert E. Lee fought for the confederacy during The Civil War, he was against slavery and the secession of the southern states. On April the 9th, 1865, Lee surrender to Union forces ending the Civil War. Lee was known for his achievements and service to his country. Overall Robert E. Lee was a great war hero and was dedicated to his service in the army. I learned that Robert E. Lee was against slavery and secession but still fought for the Confederacy.
