Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
September 16, 2021
Dear Parents,
We are now in the third week of school and everyone is settling in to their new classrooms. I would like to take some time in this newsletter to discuss our school uniform and dress code policies. We all have enjoyed the leisurely atmosphere of summer with flip flops, relaxing clothing and any hairstyle we choose. However, with the return to school, we now enter a time of more appropriate dress.
The uniform and dress code are in place for very important reasons. When they are not followed by our students it detracts from the learning process, encourages others to do the same and can at times be a safety hazard.
Please take time to read the following excerpt from our family handbook.
- NO jewelry of any kind is permitted. Students may only wear a watch, ring, and a religious medal or symbol.
- Girls may wear a pair of small, non-dangling earrings if they have pierced ears.
- Multiple earrings per ear are not permitted.
- Boys are not permitted to wear earrings. No other jewelry is necessary or appropriate and makeup and nail polish are not permitted.
- Hair must be neatly styled.
- Hair should not be faddishly colored, in or covering their eyes.
- Boys’ hair length should be above the collar. Tails, lines, designs, faddish shaves, cuts or styles are not permitted.
- Girls’ hair ribbons, barrettes, etc. should be simple and coordinate with the colors of the school uniform.
- Plain headbands are allowed.
- Headbands with accessories attached to them are not allowed.
- Large hair bows/flowers or clip on hair accessories are not permitted.
- Extreme hairdos expressing the latest faddish styles are not permitted.
- Bulky sweaters or sweatshirts/jackets are not permitted in the classroom.
Many of these are not being followed at this time. The boys, many in the older grades, are wearing the front of their hair too long. When you combine that with a mask, we can not see their faces. Many of our young ladies are wearing hair accessories that distract the attention of other students.
Beginning Monday, any student found in violation of the school handbook will receive an infraction. Please also refer to the handbook for the ramifications of multiple infractions. I have placed the school handbook below so that you may read more about our school policies, along with the Handbook Agreement Form. This form must be signed by both student and parent and be returned to school no later than Friday, September 24th. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support our of school's mission.
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God's peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley
Principal

Bus Transportation
If your family rides the bus, it is strongly suggested that you note the phone number of your School District Transportation Department.
In the event that you are running late getting to the stop or if you are concerned that the bus did not arrive within a reasonable amount of time past your normal schedule, contacting the transportation department directly will provide a quicker status.
The transportation office has the ability to radio the driver immediately and receive an estimated time of arrival. Route delays encountered on the way home as a result of excessive traffic problems can also be conveyed to you at that time.
If the bus driver transports a child back to the school then the child will be in the CARES (after program). Please go to the gym doors and ring the green call box.
