How to complete a BADGE:

In order to achieve Pine Cone "Credits", your student will need to login to CANVAS.
There is a "Badge" system within the CANVAS course that will award your student with a special badge for completing the reading logs & reading responses.
PLEASE NOTE:
After the 1st Badge, ALL other Badges require the student to complete 2 books, prior to finishing the CANVAS requirements.
Your student should read both books BEFORE they attempt to complete the CANVAS assignment to earn badges (after badge #1)
Students who are familiar with their login & password are having a much easier time navigating the Chromebook during iCenter time.
I would recommend extra practice with logging in & finding the CANVAS course.
Thank you so much,
Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Happy Reading!
Mrs. Carson

What is Respect?
Respect is the willingness and ability to act professionally and thoughtfully with ourselves and others. Leaders can deal respectfully with opposition and provide space for both dignity and differences to coexist.
Why focus on Respect?
- Respect contributes to a positive culture. People feel safe, supported, and engaged in the context of thoughtful social, emotional, civic, and intellectual interactions.
- Respect decreases conflict. Respect helps us, and others, to be able to express ourselves without fear of being judged, humiliated, or discriminated against.
- Respect encourages empathy. Respect helps us to understand each other and put ourselves in someone else shoes.

Tools for Families to Talk to Their Children
For families seeking a way to talk with their children about recent events, you may access the following resources as a starting point:
Non-specific safety conversations may be more appropriate for younger students and may begin with presentations like the following on the Johns Hopkins site: “Talking to Your Children About Safety” for children in grades K-2 and children in grades 3-5. Using children’s books that use the power of narrative to teach valuable lessons is also a developmentally appropriate method to help our young one's process information. Some examples include the following:
The Rabbit Listened. A child has their castle wrecked and animals come and talk to her to give her advice. The rabbit comes to listen to her and she shares her feelings and gets brave to build the castle again.
After the Fall. Humpty Dumpty gets the courage to climb the wall again.
