“See the need, to take the lead”

Big picture

Dear Heritage Families,

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of the amazing Heritage Elementary to replace the retiring Cathey Bugg. I feel so grateful to have been given this incredible opportunity to lead one of the best elementary schools in the state alongside many of the best educators in this profession. I cannot wait to get to know you and begin to develop long-lasting relationships. I am sure many of you are curious about me. I have 21 years of educational experience, teaching elementary and middle school for seven and half years and being an administrator for thirteen and a half years. My most recent administrative experience has been shaped by six years as Principal of Washington Irving in Edmond, two years as Assistant Principal at Charles Haskell, and prior to that, four years as Assistant Principal at Centennial. I also served as a middle school teacher and Assistant Principal in Putnam City. I grew up in Stillwater as the daughter of an educator at OSU and then also attended OSU. Go Pokes! My husband and I have lived in Edmond since 1993. Corbin is a math teacher and football & soccer coach in the Edmond district. My nineteen-year-old twin daughters, Brooke and Madi, have attended Edmond Public Schools for their entire school careers and are currently living in Stillwater attending OSU. You will often find my family and me at Edmond school and community events. My commitment to Edmond Public Schools runs deep and I am honored to be part of such an incredible district. I am elated to bring my skills as an educational leader to your school and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure success for ALL children.

Along with staff, I will work hard to grow the legacy of success established at Heritage Elementary by building strong relationships with faculty, staff, students, parents, and community partners. We will focus on continuing the tradition of being a model Great Expectations school, 21st Century skills with the technology focus, fostering a nurturing safe environment for children, consistent implementation of best practice instructional strategies to increase students’ achievement, and providing exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students.

I anticipate a most successful year as we support the academic, social, and emotional growth of your children here at Heritage Elementary. I am sincerely excited and looking forward to working alongside you and this amazing team of professionals as we embark on this school year.

During the course of the year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide the students of Heritage the best possible opportunities in preparing them to be world-class citizens ready to master the challenges of the 21st Century with a solid foundation created here at our school. As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to email me to discuss any suggestions or ideas to help make this the best year yet!

🏫 Heritage Boundary Realignment

Big picture

Hi Heritage Families,

The boundary recommendations were developed by a district-wide committee. The recommendations and the rationale used to draw the boundaries were presented to the community at a public meeting on March 2. Feedback received at the meeting as well as through a special email set up by the district was considered and changes were made to the original proposal and presented to the Board of Education on Thursday, March 11.

The board voted to accept the boundary proposal below with one exception. Students who live in Echo Ranch, a new subdivision that will eventually be built at the corner of Broadway and Coffee Creek, will now be assigned to John Ross Elementary rather than Cross Timbers Elementary.

📧Email from Emily Steele - Sequoyah Middle School Principal

Hi Heritage 5th Grade Parents and Students,

We wanted to let you know that our 5th to 6th enrollment process will look very different this year at Sequoyah. We are not able to bring 5th graders in for tours, as we have done in the past. Instead, We will create a video to welcome our new kiddos!

We will push out several helpful items to incoming 6th grade families.

- Video from principal/counselor that will introduce the enrollment process & walk families through the process

- Elective Introduction Videos

- electronic course description document

- electronic course selection form

We will also link all of these resources to our school website.

The timeline all of this will occur is as follows:

- 3/1: sending videos and all documents

- 3/15 - 3/31: families will enter course requests in Infinite Campus for their child (we will email instructions on how to do this and probably have an explanation video, as the date approaches)

- 3/24 & 3/31: our site counselors will be available to our incoming families at specific times to assist anyone that needs help with the enrollment process

We do not plan for any in-person events, until maybe later in April/May, and this will just be the admin/counselor duo coming to say hi and introduce ourselves in person. In lieu of tours, we are putting together video tours that will be shared at a later time with incoming families.

💉District Employees to Receive Covid 19 Vaccine at Vaccination Pods 💉

Big picture

The week of February 22-26, Edmond Public Schools private, third-party health provider Total Wellness was made available approximately 2050 Moderna Covid-19 vaccines to EPS employees.

In an email to parents, Superintendent Bret Towne said, “Employee vaccinations and the soon-to-be-completed work of the Covid Advisory Committee are crucial to creating a safe environment in our schools and a major step forward in reopening our classrooms to more full-time, in-person instruction.”

Total Wellness nurses will distribute the vaccines. District and some school staff volunteers will assist the nurses with collecting paperwork and other administrative duties. The pods are exclusive to teachers and school staff. Employees received a link to sign up for the opportunity to receive the vaccine.

Only those who receive the first dose with EPS will be eligible to receive the second dose.

The dates for employees to receive the second dose of the Moderna vaccines are March 26-April 2.

💜 Hope Project 2021 💜
