  2. Build an emergency first-aid kit.

  3. Collect food and water for 72 hours.

  4. Buy flashlights, batteries, candles, matches, and a radio.

  5. Listen to tv or radio newscast.

  6. Be alert to changing weather conditions.

  7. Put your personal documents together.

  8. Prepare to take shelter.

History

The City of Orlando was referred to as "The Phenomenal City". It was founded in 1840 by the Jernigan family which named Orlando Jernigan after their family name. In the beginning Orlando had eighty-five inhabitants. The current population is 249,562. Orlando's history dates back to 1838 and the height of the Seminole Wars. The U.S. Army built Fort Gatlin south of the present day Orlando City limits. This was to protect settlers from attacks by Indians.

Residents

A popular pastime in Orlando would be making pottery and boating. Most housing in Orlando is basically a one or two story house or apartment. Some people also live in mobile homes. Sports are big in Orlando, home teams include the Orlando Magic(Basketball), Florida Panthers(Hockey), Florida Gators(Football) and the Orlando Scorpions(Baseball). The people of Orlando are based around energy and fun.

Wildlife

Orlando has a variety of cool animals extending from Alligators to Deer, but one of the most outstanding is the Florida Panther. The Florida Panther is a beautiful animal that is native to Orlando. This Panther is a rare and endangered species . Besides the Florida Panther there are animals that can help, but also harm us. For example the eastern diamondback helps us by hunting rodents that can infect our houses. But, if mice were to get into our houses they can harm us by spreading diseases within our houses.

Culture

I am from the island of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico and Orlando are very similar. Orlando has many different cultural influences. There is only a small portion of Americans in Orlando Florida. Spanish and Portuguese influences have left their mark here. Due to the large Hispanic community in the area, there are Latin-inspired festivals. The city also host many large cultural events like the Florida Film Festival.

My Map

I like to go to Cici's Pizza when I can because I love their different pizza flavors. and I can spend some time with my family. I also like to go to Hungry Howie's pizza and subs because they make their pizza and subs with a unique flavor.

Overall Reflection

All of these characteristics are what makes Orlando what it is. It's culture is very unique because their is a mix of Hispanic and American instead of just one culture. All of it's traditions are made of unique customs like food and language of all the people that live here. Orlando is very similar to Puerto Rico. It's climate is also very similar to Puerto Rico's.
