Bryan Middle Weekly Newsletter

Hello Bears of Bryan Middle School:
Another week of learning is in the books! As I walk around Bryan Middle School, I can hear highly engaging learning activities taking place in all the classrooms. Students are demonstrating their knowledge in creative ways. All of this is leading to future success for our Bryan Middle School Bears. Continue to talk with your students about how important education is to be prepared for life beyond school.
A few reminders:
Social Media Trends: In September, you may have seen local or national coverage of a social media trend that involves stealing from schools or damaging school property. Often, the vandalism involves a school bathroom. Much of the activity is posted to TikTok, a social media platform.
We are writing to make you aware and to help students make positive, safe decisions. Schools throughout the metro, including several in our district, have seen the negative effects of this dangerous behavior. We will thoroughly investigate any issues, following our student code of conduct and involving law enforcement partners when appropriate. The safety of our schools is always our top priority. We encourage any students and families aware of unsafe behavior to connect with their school’s principal or call the Safe Schools Hotline at 531-299-SAFE.
Masks: The Omaha Public Schools has a policy in place that all students and any visitors must wear a face covering that covers the mouth and nose while in school and on the bus. This is in place to help mitigate the spread of Covid-19. Please ensure your student has a mask on has he or she boards the bus, or steps out of your vehicle in the morning. In addition, talk with your student about keeping their mask up over their mouth and nose throughout the school day.
Dress and Personal Appearance: The statement below is from the OPS code of conduct on dress and personal appearance.
Your personal appearance is basically a concern of you and your parents/guardian(s). However, a student’s appearance should promote positive opportunities for learning and not disrupt the school environment. Students must be fully clothed, with a covered torso, and shoes. Pictures of words promoting alcohol, drug use, weapons, or words or images that insult or demean others are not acceptable at school.
The torso is the core of the body from which the neck and limbs extend. Please make sure students are wearing clothing that covers their torso.
Water bottles: With our current Covid-19 prevention strategy, the water fountains at Bryan Middle School are shut off. Please continue to send your student with a water bottle each day. We are running low on 20-ounce bottles. Any donations are appreciated.
Parent Teacher Conference reminder: Teachers have shared their link to book a parent teacher conference! You will need to book a time utilizing this link and your student’s email address. Please note that all conferences that are booked on October 13 will be virtual, where you access the conference via Microsoft Teams on your students iPad. All conferences book on October 14 will be in person. You and your student will need to come to Bryan Middle School. We’ll share more procedures as this get closer, but please take a moment to book.
Thank you.

Gracias.

This week we celebrated our #BeKind display winners with doughnuts on Monday during advisory. It was great to see all our advisory classes working together to spread a message of kindness throughout Bryan Middle School. There were so many amazing displays- it was very difficult to choose our winners. Congratulations to our 8th grade winners- Mr. Grinvalds, Mrs. Buschelman, and Mrs. Alfieri, and our 7th grade winners- Ms. Foley, Mrs. Donaldson and Ms. Moulton's Cubs.
