September 2017
Kids Chat Column
Hi Cooks Corners Families!
As you have probably noticed, our school is under some major construction.
While we’ve had some challenges--such as noises, & being limited in outdoor activities like recess and gym--it’s worth it because our school will be absolutely beautiful in the end.
Our new classrooms are really impressive! The fabulous new lighting system allows us to dim the lights, a cool feature. The interactive boards are really nice, along with lots of storage space.
Some additional features are a new meeting/assembly area (the Webster Auditorium), a colossal new gym, separate from the cafeteria, and a music room separate from the art room, which we will be receiving soon. The intercom system is really breathtaking and the new carpet in the hallway is stylish. Before, if it was rainy and there was water on your shoes, you would get the smooth floors wet and make someone slip. But that won’t happen anymore!
We are excited for the new furniture arriving after our Winter Break!! It will have all-new desks and chairs , like the ones in our classroom, Mrs. Warren’s class. yasss
Recess has been...interesting. We currently have a blacktop with new four square and hopscotch courts. Plus two maps--one of Indiana with all the counties and one of the U.S. of A. with all the states. Joyfully, the playground is due the end of September. Yay!
Here’s a list of all the clubs/activities we’re doing this year:
S.T.E.M. Club-all grades
Robotics-5th
After-School Sports-4th and 5th
Student Council-3rd, 4th and 5th
Spell Bowl-4th and 5th
Science Bowl-4th and 5th
Math Bowl-4th and 5th
Chinese Learning-all grades
Choir-4th and 5th
Cooks Spirit Wear is due soon, so don’t forget to order!
In conclusion, this September is sure to be great. Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!!!

WANTED - 5th Grade Students as Celebrities
Forms went home seeking any 5th grade student interested in being showcased as a "celebrity" for a week. What does it mean to be a 5th grade celebrity? There is a showcase located in the hallway outside of the main office that the "celebrity" student will set up to represent themselves, such as their interests and hobbies, favorite books, music, sports, sports teams, and can even include family and friend pictures. Additional forms can be picked up in the main office. Thank you Kyla for volunteering to be our first Celebrity!
Volunteers - Limited Background Check Forms
Anyone wishing to volunteer in the building or in a classroom, have lunch with their child, chaperone a field trip, etc., is required to have a limited background check on file. These expire after one year. You can pick a form up in the main office, print one from the Cooks Corners website under the Parents tab, or request that one be sent home with your child.
Due to using a new process and website for background checks this year, please be patient as we work through some issues. In some instances, additional information may be requested from you in order to complete the processing of your background check.
Finally, don't forget to complete the PTO Volunteer form if you are interested in volunteering for different events hosted by our fabulous PTO! There are forms in the office if you need another one!
