Principal's Message

Happy Thursday Bobcat Families,

This edition is coming to you a day early as we do not have students or staff on campus on Friday, October 22nd. It's been a great week here and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday! It is the last weekend of the SC State Fair. I hope you enjoy your time if you choose to attend.

For students who attend CRP, there is no CRP the week of October 25 - 29th. Students will be dismissed at their normal time of 2:30 and sent home their normal mode of transportation.

Report cards will be going home on Wednesday of next week so please look out for those.

Fall Picture Make-Up Day is on October 28th. If your student did not take a Fall photo or wishes to do another, please be sure to have them at school by 7:30am on this day.

Friday, October 29th is an early release day on the district calendar. Please remember 10:30am is the release time for elementary students. It has been this way since last school year. Ensure your student knows how they are going home if it is an alternate method of transportation than normal.

At 7:30pm on Friday, October 29th our PTO is sponsoring AC Moore Spirit Night at the Dreher Football Game. Sport your Bobcat Blue & White as we cheer on the Dreher Blue Devils!

Finally, please remember students are not to wear costumes of any kind next week in honor of Halloween.

Have a great, restful three day weekend everyone!

---------SCHOOL NEWS---------

DID YOU KNOW...?

October is National Principal's Month!

Source

Each October, National Principals Month recognizes the essential role that principals play in making a school great!

Principals are among the hardest working, yet often least recognized individuals in education. Principals set the academic tone for their schools, and it is their vision, dedication, and determination that provide the mobilizing force for achieving student success. Each October, NASSP, NAESP, and AFSA seek to honor these unsung heroes for their tireless efforts in pursuit of excellence in education.

National Principals Month is a widely recognized celebration of the principalship, marked by national and state resolutions supporting the event, as well as acknowledgements from U.S. Senators and Representatives, and top government officials. However, the most important National Principals Month celebrations are the ones that take place in schools and communities across the country.

HAPPY NATIONAL PRINCIPAL'S MONTH!

The Bobcat Family would like to say a special THANK YOU to our principal, Mrs. LaQuana Aldridge, for her commitment to excellence and for her support of the Bobcat faculty, staff, students, and families! Thank you for always giving your best and for your dedicated leadership to the A.C. Moore community!

SwampFest Art Competition

SwampFest is a local heritage celebration sponsored by SERCO and Richland County, and was held October 1-2, 2021, at the historic Harriet Barber House and grounds. Congaree National Park requested entries for the Annual SwampFest Student Art Competition. Co-sponsored by the Southeast Rural Community Outreach (SERCO) and the Friends of Congaree Swamp, this year's competition provided an opportunity for young artists (grades K-8) from the Midlands to showcase their talent while celebrating the outdoors.

This year’s art competition theme was, “The Park in Your Backyard.” Spread across thousands of acres in Lower Richland County, Congaree National Park may feel like a backyard to many. Students who have not visited Congaree were encouraged to use their own backyard, local park, or neighborhood green space as inspiration for their submissions. Many students chose to focus on a specific landscape, plant or animal, or an outdoor activity they enjoy.

Park staff selected first place and honorable mentions for each grade level from the entries. All student entries are being displayed at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center through the month of October. Festival information can be found at http://www.congareeswampfest.com. or www.nps.gov

Scheduled Break for CRP Classes

CRP will NOT be held next week (October 26 – 28), due to a scheduled break in the program.

Classes will resume Tuesday, November 2nd.

NO habrá CRP (tutoría después de la escuela) la semana del 26 al 28 de octubre, debido a un receso en el programa.

Las clases empezaran de nuevo el 2 de noviembre.

CELEBRATE BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Big picture

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month aims to make people throughout the country more knowledgeable about this global health issue. Government agencies, medical societies, and nonprofit organizations work with survivors during October to raise money to fund research, educate women about the importance of getting regular mammograms, and detail prevention and early detection methods.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the following information reflects how breast cancer has currently impacted woman in the U.S.:

  • In 2020, an estimated 276,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. and 48,530 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer.
  • 64% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at a localized stage (there is no sign that the cancer has spread outside of the breast), for which the 5-year survival rate is 99%.
  • This year, an estimated 42,170 women will die from breast cancer in the U.S.
  • Although rare, men get breast cancer too. In 2020, it’s estimated that 2,620 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S., and approximately 520 will die.
  • 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers. It is estimated that in 2020, approximately 30% of all new cancer diagnoses in women will be breast cancer.
  • There are more than 3.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
  • On average, every 2 minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States.
