App Smashing

What is "app smashing"?
App smashing refers to combining work done on different iPad apps into one final project. The possibilities are seemingly endless, but here are some examples:
Meet the Cells
Use Doodle Buddy to draw and label a cell. Take a screenshot of the picture. Have the students write or complete sentences frames about the parts of a cell. Use ChatterPix Kids to make the cell come alive and talk about its parts.
Explain the Math
Use Number Pieces Basic to work through solving math problems. Take screenshots for each step. Have students explain the steps and strategies they used for each step by recording over the pictures using Shadow Puppet Edu.
Making Ten
Use Number Frames to have students show ways to make ten. Take a screenshot of the finished product. Put the imagine into ScreenChomp and have the students record the ways they made ten.
Circuit Instructable
Use Building Parallel Circuits Lite or Building Serial Circuits Lite to make a complete circuit. Take screenshots of each step of the process and then use Book Creator Free to make a how-to guide.
The Value of Money
Use Money Pieces to have students show money values and relationships. Take a screenshot and use Educreations to record the students explaining the relationships.
Helpful Tips
- Taking screen shots should work in any app. This means students can snap a picture of anything they are doing.
- Take app smashing to a whole new level using a digital portfolio like Seesaw. You can create some things in Seesaw or upload anything from your camera roll. This app allows parents access as well.
- Simple Transfer allows for quick and wireless downloading of your students' creations.
