Bethlehem Staff pull together for the United Way Fundraising this year!
BASD Staff and Faculty:
I would like to take a moment and thank our BASD staff and faculty who helped make this year's BASD United Way Campaign such a huge success. Once again this year, BASD donations far exceed other school districts in our area.
This year's campaign theme, "Be a Housing Hero" focused on affordable housing and brought extra funding to the campaign. Thanks to PPL Corporation for matching new and increased United Way donations with an additional $50 added to each donation. BASD took advantage of PPL's generosity for the good of our families and neighbors in need.
I am proud to say that BASD's United Way Campaign donations totaled $163,527.44. This amount includes our campaign and our special events like jeans day and the football raffle. Again, our district far exceeds other area school districts. I am so proud of your support for the United Way again this year.
As a member of the Board of Directors for the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, I know the donations go back into our community and our schools.
A huge shout out to Barbara Clymer, BASD Communications Coordinator, who was the leader of our BASD workplace United Way campaign again this year!
The entire campaign for the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley raised a record setting $22,642,018 to support the excellent work of non-profit organizations serving our community.
Thank you for your support. I am proud of our school district.

Student Led Fundraiser for Turkey and Syria historic earthquake victims
The 2nd annual East Hills Wiffleball Challenge for Charity was an amazing success. The students raised $1,246.63 to bring aid to the victims of the earthquake that ravaged Syria and Turkey. The money raised was a fantastic success and so was the tournament for the top six homerooms.
On day one, DePaulo defeated Glase in a very close match and Landino defeated Micolochick in one of the most exciting games where time had been called and only one play was allowed before a tie would be called. The last play resulted in a walk-off win for Mrs. Landino and a trip to the 2nd round. The second round saw the top two seeds Kreidler and Coyle take the field and they lived up to their billing. Kreidler's team scored a tournament-high 12 runs in their victory while Coyle's team eked out a hard-fought victory to advance. The championship lived up to the hype. As the two teams traded the lead back and forth through the match. The student umpires now battle-hardened from the earlier contests would need all their composure and skill as there were several close plays that decided the very close match. In the end, Frank Irizarry would catch the final out to propel homeroom 309 to victory.
A fantastic thank you to everyone who participated, especially to Ahmet Akdere who first sponsored this cause and brought awareness to his classmates, needed supplies to a devasted people, and an amazing event to take us into the holiday weekend
Great job all
