Spring Concert
Under the direction of Mr. Oscar Gongora, the 4th grade band made their debut performance by playing their instruments in public for the very first time. They were joined by the 5th grade band, who due to COVID-19 restrictions, also made their first public appearance. The bands were spectacular. The 4th graders showed their technical ability in playing songs like, "Hot Cross Buns," and showed off their talent by playing, "Let's Go Band!" The 5th graders did not let this opportunity pass. They were excellent. Every song was note perfect.
Following the band, our 3rd graders had their first concert by performing on their recorders. They played each song so well, and brought the house down with their performance of "Gangam Style."
Mrs. Niemiera wasn't done once the recorder show was completed. It was then that the 4th and 5th grade chorus took the stage. From light-hearted commercial jingles and classic American spirituals, to madrigals and a bluesy cover of "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" that featured the chorus, piano, ukulele, the recorders, and two tap dancers.
Thank you to our students, Mr. Gongora, and Mrs. Niemiera for an amazing night of entertainment.

Huber Street School 4th Grade STEM Night
Mrs. O'Connor challenged 4th grade students to complete a STEM Challenge. Students were asked to engineer a solution to a problem (or to create a new spin on an existing game.) The students had a chance to show off their creations to their peers and families during the first-ever STEM Night.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) challenges allow children to explore materials in a hands-on and open-ended way.
Students were required to pick a STEM challenge, engineer a plan, and then use simple, household materials to construct a model. The project provided an opportunity for students to combine science with technology and help students learn about the engineering process while enhancing their technology skills.
5th Grade Shark Tank Project
Throughout the school year, students have learned how to put together a business plan, create Google spreadsheets, and Google slides. For their presentation, students blended everything together for their "Big Day." Using teamwork, public speaking skills, and creativity, the students really shined for their debut presenting in front of local business owners from Secaucus.
