Expostion
This story takes place in the auditorium, where everyone lives the perfect, ordinary life. The only real "change" is when someone hits the age of twelve. During this huge transition, the chiefs/elders, acknowledge their differences and begin choosing their future careers.
Rising Action
Jonas is already extremely nervous about becoming all grown up because he isn't necessarily sure of what he wants to become. Al the "twelves" sit in their numerical order and patiently wait for their name to be called out. As Jonas number gets closer he gets excited to find out how his life is going to be impacted. However, his name never gets called out, and Jonas becomes terrified.
Climax
Jonas is now the new memory holder, which is holding everyone's memories and emotions. This is causing stress and pain because he doesn't want everyone to be exactly the same, and he's tired of having to deal with everyone's pain.
Falling Action
Jonas finds out the elders are the ones hiding reality from everyone and he feels that is unfair.Jonas doesn't want the be the memory holder anymore.
Demouement
In conclusion, Jonas also finds out the elders want to release Gabriel, and so Jonas runs away with him. Not only that, but everyone gets their memories back.
