Florence Update - March 6th
Spring Break March 9th -13th & Spring Forward
Don't forget to set those clocks ahead one hour, as we will spring forward over the break!
From the District
Keller ISD Families and Employees,
As we shared last week, Keller ISD continues to monitor the latest regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus (Coronavirus) by maintaining close contact with the Tarrant County Public Health Department and following guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Local health authorities continue to report that the virus is not yet spreading through Texas and the risk of getting Coronavirus locally and throughout Texas remains low. There are still no confirmed cases of the illness in Tarrant County.
Keller ISD will continue to communicate any significant updates by emailing families and staff, and will continue to update and post resources to the KellerISD.net "Coronavirus Updates" page (www.KellerISD.net/Coronavirus).
The District continues to follow all precautions and guidelines provided by local, state, and national health authorities. Specific information about how Keller ISD’s Operations team responds to influenza and other viruses can also be found at www.KellerISD.net/EnvironmentalResponsePlan. The CDC continues to recommend preventative actions to stop the spread of germs, including:
- Avoiding close contact with people who are sick;
- Staying home when you are sick, except to get medical care;
- Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth;
- Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throwing the tissue in the trash;
- Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe; and
- Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
(If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.)
Many parents have expressed concerns about students traveling for Spring Break. While the District cannot monitor the travel of all Keller ISD families, administrators are aware of a few school-sponsored trips taking place over the break. At this time, the CDC has not placed any recommended restrictions on travel within the United States, so these trips are scheduled to take place as planned. Any other non-school trips are planned through third-party travel agencies, and the decision to reschedule, cancel, or travel as planned will be communicated through those third-party agencies.
Parents of students in Keller ISD’s clinical healthcare rotations should have also recently received communication from Keller ISD’s CTE Department. At this time, the Department of State and Human Services has stated that it is not recommending the suspension of high school student healthcare rotations.
Again, Keller ISD is monitoring all of these situations on a daily basis and regularly communicating with local and state health officials. We will continue to provide updates, but in the meantime, please be aware of the following resources for more information about Coronavirus and how parents can address the situation with their children:
- Tarrant County Coronavirus Hotline: 817-248-6299
- Tarrant County Public Health
- Texas Department of State Health Services
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
