Red Ribbon Week is Almost Here!
A Celebration for a Cause!
Here at Slater Elementary we consistently stand against the things that would negatively impact our community. We proudly embrace the Red Ribbon Week activities as we pledge to remove drugs and alcoholism to build a better future for our students.
Coming November 1!!!
Costumes, a parade, fun literature events, bouncy houses, a game truck, trunk or treat will make up this Year's Fall Festival.
As a parent, you can decorate your trunk and fill it with candy, or you can donate a bag or two of candy to help support this event!
Let's Do Lunch
The event takes place November 5, from 10:30 am-1:00 pm, we hope to see you there!!
Slater is a Project Based Learning School
You may know about Project Based Learning from the first quarter of the school year. Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.
Our Slater students just completed their 1st PBL showcase for the school year, and our teachers are planning now to make the second quarter PBL experience even better than the first.
As a parent, you can find out what your scholar is learning about and get involved! You can look for books about the topic to share with your child or donate to your child's class. You can take your scholar to places that will deepen their understanding of the topic they are studying, and you can volunteer to support your child's classroom in some way that would be meaningful!
Pace Academy Students and Staff Support Slater
Slater Staff and students saw this work as a perfect way to forge a partnership between our two organizations. Our students and staff really appreciate all that the Pace Academy students and Staff generously gave.
Slater Students are Awarded for Excellence!
Students are paid in stickers for their daily work, pending their sign-in and sign-out requirements. Students also receive rewards for remaining positive as they work through the challenges that are presented in the weekly activities. Diligence pays off for the students that complete the curriculum as they get to select a bike of their own free of charge!!!
Promise Palmer is pictured above as the Slater Elementary Student of the Month. Promise consistently demonstrates the characteristics that are expected for student success in the Bearing's Bike Shop and received his honor from peer nominations.
Monday Mission is Upon Us!
This week's mission is:
Staff: Let someone know how they made your week better.
Student: Give another student a compliment
A Tiger Reminder!!
Slater is a Uniform School!
To ensure that our learning environment is equitable and focused on instruction, we are a uniform school. All students are required to be in uniform Monday - Friday. Our uniforms consist of khaki or navy blue bottoms (shorts, pants, skirts) and white, orange, or blue polo shirts. All students should be in uniform Monday-Friday. If you are facing a challenge in purchasing uniforms for your child(ren), feel free to reach out to our parent liaison, Ms. Woods, for assistance @(404)802-4050.
On time is the Best Time!
Research indicates that missing more than five days of school each year, regardless of the cause, begins to impact student academic performance and starts shaping attitudes about school.
At Slater Elementary, we recognize the relationship between daily school attendance, school climate, student performance, and social-emotional health. We also know that the amount of time actually spent in class is a good measure of student access to an education. Each tardy or absence means a student has lost an opportunity to learn.
At T.H. Slater Elementary, we strive to proactively monitor school wide attendance and the individual attendance of each student.
Friday's Are Early Release Days
