A Message from the Administrative Team
Hi WJHS Families,
While is still feels like summer, we are getting ready for fall and all that this entails!
One event we are excited to announce is our participation once again in the annual ADL Walk Against Hate. Every year on the 5-8 campus, we partner with the ADL to host events for students and their families as we work toward being a community free of hate. In fact, your child will soon learn more about how they can get involved in this effort through our No Place for Hate team that will soon be kicking off.
Sunday, October 10 is the date of this year's annual Walk Against Hate, and we will be hosting an informal in-person walk starting and ending at Highcrest Middle School at 9:00 AM that day. We will plan to walk about 2 miles around Wilmette, and we will have signs and snacks to enjoy our time as a team!
To participate, please register as a part of our team (Wilmette 5-8 Walk Against Hate) at:
https://www.walkagainsthate.org/Chicago/58walkagainsthate. No donation is needed to participate.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Kate, Jeff and Eric

Board Meeting Highlights
The Board of Education held its regular meeting this past Monday. After hearing a presentation from the administrative team, the Board unanimously approved our 2021-26 strategic plan: Engage, Empower, Inspire. This plan provides a roadmap to continue to improve education in Wilmette. The Board also received information on our proposed learning support plan, which includes information on intervention services, our SEL support efforts this year, and the allocation of ESSER grant funding to support learning recovery and other needs. Highlights from the Board Meeting are available online along with meeting materials and a recording of the meeting.
Free weekly SHIELD COVID-19 testing is available to all students and staff, and is strongly encouraged for anyone unvaccinated. Thank you to families who have registered and are participating in weekly testing. If you have not yet done so, please register your child to participate by signing into the Parent PowerSchool Portal, choosing “Forms” on the left side, selecting “COVID Testing Consent” and completing the registration form for each child. Your child will be eligible to participate in SHIELD testing seven days after completing registration. SHIELD testing is offered weekly on Tuesdays 3:30-6:30 pm, Thursdays 3:30-6:30 pm and Saturdays 8:00-11:00 am at WJHS. Weekly participation helps us maintain healthy schools and safe in-person learning. Click here for more information on free SHIELD testing.
