April 5, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Estimadas familias de Woodcrest,
We have one more day of learning this week! Please remember there is no school on Friday, April 7.
Our March Music Madness competition in Ms. Swenson’s class has wrapped up and the winning song was “Brand New” by Ben Rector. Mrs. Foty submitted that song so she is the winner of the trophy!
This week we’ll have our first Premio Pantera drawing. Premio Pantera is a way to recognize students who are showing CARES (Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy and Self-Control) at school. Each week, we’ll have a raffle (for prizes) with the tickets students have earned during the week.
Our Junior Panther Mentors are a group of fourth graders who demonstrate CARES and leadership skills at Woodcrest. One of their jobs is to help conduct the weekly Premio Pantera drawings. Thank you to our mentors and to our PTO for helping us start programs like this one! I’m excited to test it out this spring!
Enjoy the upcoming long weekend!
In Partnership,
Jaime Nymann
Principal
Spring brings 'farm to school' meals
Our schools are cooking up exciting new recipes. Kitchen managers have been working the Healthy Roots Institute system to build a sustainable school food program that bolsters the skills of kitchen teams and adds tasty, healthy flavors to menus.
Just in time for March’s National Nutrition Month, Spring Lake Park Schools nutrition services staff teamed up with Healthy Roots Institute to add some new pizazz to the school menu. After the March training, staff is gearing up to bring these new flavors to student diners. Read the story to learn more and see photos of the recipes in the making.
Spanish Immersion learning at Spring Lake Park Schools
Spanish Immersion learning is a unique feature of Spring Lake Park Schools. Immersion learning begins as early as preschool and continues through grade 12. Last spring, the first graduates to begin their immersion journey in kindergarten here graduated as part of the Class of 2022. Take a look at the evolution of immersion learning across schools and grade levels to better understand the journey to becoming a bilingual and biliterate graduate.
