NAG Parent Night
Each year during the NAG (Nebraska Association for the Gifted) Conference, NAG hosts a parent night with the conference keynote speakers. The theme of the discussion is "Planting the Seeds for Advocacy and Action: Information for Parents with Gifted, Advanced, and High-Ability Children." WordMaster and Noetic Math Contests
Both the WordMaster and Noetic Math Contests are in full swing! We had some great results from the first rounds of both competitions.
In the WordMaster Challenge, both the 5th and 6th grade teams made the Top 10 list nationally! You can see the full lists of winning teams by clicking on this link: WordMaster results. Please note that you will need to scroll down to the "G" or "Gold" division to see our team results. Awards for this competition will be given at the end of the year.
In the Noetic Math Contest, both the 4th and 6th grade teams earned a Team Recognition award for being in the top 10% of teams nationally. Several individuals also earned Team Winner awards (highest score on their team), National Honor Roll medals (top 10% nationally), and Honorable Mention certificates (top 50% nationally). (see picture below of our individual award winners!) The full list of results can be found by clicking on this link: Noetic Math results.
The next WordMaster test will be in mid-February, and the final WordMaster and Noetic tests will be in April. WordMaster participants have received their new word lists (which can also be accessed through my website at mrsediger.weebly.com), and Noetic practice problems will be shared as we get closer to April.

Current HAL projects
This quarter, the HAL students are working on independent study projects having to do with the concept of change. We have had discussions to help us understand this concept and also developed essential questions that we would like to learn more about. Each student will be researching and developing a project on a topic of their choice. Students will develop a product to show what they've learned, and they will also be sharing these projects with various audiences. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to take ownership in their learning. I can't wait to see them grow!
