Heading into a long weekend…
We learned that HHS is on the College Board’s newest AP School Honor Roll, which "recognizes schools that have done outstanding work to welcome more students into AP courses and support them on the path to college success." Kudos to the many students and teachers who earned this recognition!
HHS recognized some of its unsung heroes and heroines on Monday, which was National Custodian Appreciation Day. Two days later, those very people were called on to display the qualities that make them such valuable members of our school community, as we contended with a minor flood that led to an early dismissal for all students. As always, they rose to the occasion.
Max Papaleoni won the Photo of the Week for his photograph "Waves."
HHS marked the midpoint of the first term yesterday.
The HHS PTO met last night.
Looking ahead…
HHS will celebrate the first of its two annual “Breathe Out” days, which aim to promote mental health awareness and stress reduction, on Friday 10/13.
As we contend with the onset of cold and flu season, please review the “Attendance Guidelines for Illness” on the HPS website if necessary.
We will celebrate Homecoming on Saturday 10/21; festivities begin at 9 AM and continue throughout the day.
In other announcements:
Lions International is collecting gently used eyewear, with a special focus on youth eyewear, at all Hingham schools this month. All donated glasses will be taken to the New England College of Optometry, where they will be cleaned, repaired, if necessary, and categorized. The donated eyewear will then be distributed by VOSH International (Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity) to people in need.
The league champion HHS wrestling team is on the lookout for a new student manager. Interested students should see Mr. Canniff in Room 121.
If you haven’t already done so, please complete the beginning-of-year documents in the Aspen Family Portal. These documents include the following:
Review of Contact Information
School Handbook Acknowledgement
Technology Acceptable Use
Student Photo Release Opt Out
Release of Student Data Notice
You can find instructions for the "Parent Permission Workflow" HERE. If you need help with AspenFamily login, please send an email to: aspenhelp@hinghamschools.org.
Governor Healey recently created a Governor’s Youth Advisory Council to advise the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and the entire administration on critical issues impacting Massachusetts, such as civic engagement, education, the environment, housing, and youth violence. Massachusetts residents ages 16-21 are invited to apply through the link above by Saturday 10/14.
Finally, a message from HPS that is being shared across the district:
Youth mental health is a topic of utmost importance, and we believe that by working together, we can create a supportive environment where our children can thrive.

Frosty Bow Sprints at Bare Cove Park
Calling all HHS Superfans: Mark your calendars for Saturday 11/4. The Frosty Bow Sprints at Bare Cove Park will provide a rare chance to cheer on HHS rowers right here in Hingham!
Textile River Regatta
HHS rowers kicked off their Fall season at the Textile River Regatta in Lowell earlier this week. The numbers (4 medals, 10 boats, 90 student athletes) are more than impressive, but the smiles tell the most important part of the story!
Chemistry
Chess Club
HHS offers more than 50 students clubs, and one of them (The Harborlight, our student newspaper) reports ably on another (the chess club) this week!
