Centre for Musical Minds 2024
Letter from the Director
Dear CMM Families,
Love is in the air! At the heart of what we do at CMM is personal growth, through music. We go beyond simply tasks, skills and checklists. We focus on truly getting to know your children, or maybe even you as an adult student. From there, our primary goal is to help each student become THE BEST version of themselves; each student has different goals, ranging from hobby to pre-professional, and we're here for all it.
Music learning isn't an engineering exercise, it's a design challenge; finding that space for expression and self exploration, the balance of discipline and play, which takes time and continued effort. This time of year can be challenging because things get really busy, especially academically for the older kids. Now of all times, is the time to recommit to showing up as best you can. This doesn't mean perfection! Like all things meaningful, making music requires the commitment to showing up, consistently. What this means is simply showing up to your lessons and if you need it, letting your teacher know that you need some room to breathe. This is consistent with life and time being one of our greatest assets; sometimes we need to do the laundry, and sometimes we can have fun with our friends.
Even when we incorporate more breathing room, our teachers know how to scale learning in a way that still helps move our students forward, and simultaneously enjoy the process of making music. Cumulatively over a number of years, this strategy works beautifully. We hope that during this time you recommit to showing up to the things that are important to you. See you around!

PERFORMANCE CLASS WEEK FEB 10-16 - Sign up in your My Music Staff account!
Why Performance Classes? Top TWO Reasons!
- Well-Rounded Musicians. Preparing for a performance is more of a big deal than you might think. The kids make it look easy in recitals, but ALL music programs and departments who take music making at all seriously, have regular performance classes. We are no exception! It looks easy because we've practiced and prepared for these events.
- Community-building. It's fun for the kids when they see people they know or get to meet a new 'friend' who does the same thing they do (music.) And, there's candy!
Please note: Adults, you do NOT have a lesson this week (this week is not included in your tuition.)
*All students who wish to participate in the pop recitals are required to attend a performance class and we do NOT have private lessons this week. Your performance class takes the place of your private lesson.
Why do we do "pop recitals"? Check it out here! This video was made over 10 years ago, and the message remains the same: Meaningful connections to music and excellence done well in ALL genres is what we do at CMM.
TOP 3 REASONS to HAVE A POP RECITAL:
- Musical genre exposure
- Experience playing with other (professional) musicians
- Performance opportunity
