Project your Best!
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
This annual event is one of my favorites. Our students always look so adorable in their costumes holding one of their favorite books. Besides looking adorable, I love it because it demonstrates a love for reading as well. Parents often ask what they can do at home to help their child be successful in school. The number one thing that parents can do at home that significantly impacts students is daily reading. Read books each day for fun. Ask questions about the book and get excited about the characters. Along with reading to your child each night, let them read to you, cook something together, put puzzles together and play board games. Not only do these activities increase student performance, they have multiple benefits. You create memories with your children when you do these activities together as a family, children learn to take turns and solve problems and they develop a love for reading when they read with you and other family members regularly. Continue to foster that love for reading by reading together daily!

Counselor's Corner
The core value for February is RESPECT! Respect is showing others they are important by what you say and do. Please see the following information to see how you can help at home. Thanks for your support!
SAY IT:
Respect is showing others they are important by what you
say and do.
KNOW IT:
Ask a kid:
• Who do you know that gets disrespected often?
• When is it hard to show respect?
• How do you show respect with words?
Ask a grown up:
• What are some excuses you have used (or seen others
use) for not giving people respect?
• What is one way your family can show respect to one
another?
SEE IT:
Go to YouTube to watch Kid President’s video “20 Things
We Should Say More Often.” What advice does Kid President
offer us about being respectful to others? How can
we show others they are important by what we say and do?
BE IT:
In honor of Valentine’s Day, make some cards to give to
those who give to us. Show some respect to fire fighters,
police officers, hospital staff members, your hair dresser,
a waitress at your favorite restaurant, anyone! Make a
handful of cards and keep them in your car to hand out all
month.

a menudo” (20 Things We Should Say More Often).
