The Copeland PTO Newsletter - January 17, 2020
President’s Corner By Amanda Ball
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break! Our third graders put on a fantastic performance this past Tuesday. Mrs. Vigil always does an amazing job getting the students prepared and our music chairs, LaToi Gillyard & Veronica Flores, do a great job with the stage decorations.
I would like to invite everyone to our Spring Mix & Mingle on Tuesday, January 21st from 6:00-7:00 pm at Las Brazos restaurant on Barker Cypress. This event will be an excellent time to come out and learn about all the exciting volunteer opportunities and ways you can support our Colts.
We have a lot of fun events taking place this spring semester at Copeland so be sure to mark the dates in your calendar because you will not want to miss any of them. Our Mother/Son Ultimate Tailgate is 2/29, Movie Night and Silent Auction is 3/27 & Color Run is 4/17.
There, of course, will be Spirit Cart once a month, SRC demo’s, Little Beakers for K, 1st & 2nd, Enrichment activity for 4th, Staff Appreciation Week, Book Fair, PK Splash Day, end of year parties, 5th grade fun day and numerous spirit nights. Be sure to check the PTO calendar here: PTO calendar to stay up to date on everything.
Thank you so much to our volunteers for the time and energy you spend helping to make Copeland a great school. Your contribution, no matter how big or how small it may be, really does make a difference. As always, if you have questions/concerns/ideas regarding PTO, please feel free to contact me at copelandptopresident@gmail.com.

Shout Out to our Nature Trails Volunteers
A huge thank you to all the parents who took time out of their busy schedules to attend the training and field trip for Nature Trails! They were all so accommodating after the first trip was canceled due to bad weather, and we are so glad they were able to make it this time to help our teachers and make sure the students had an awesome, educational day outdoors for some hands-on science. Thank you so much!

The Garden by Tracy Reynolds
Thank you so much for the parents and students that brought pine needles. They help a lot with weeding the garden.
If you still have more pine needles, please continue to bring them to school and put on the picnic table near the garden.
The 3rd graders got to sample cauliflower and broccoli fresh from the garden. Ask your student if they tried it and what they liked best.
The next garden date is Jan 23. Remember to send your students in clothes and shoes that can get dirty on garden days. The 3rd graders will be weeding and planting spring crops in the next few weeks.
The garden is still selling bluebonnets seeds. The seeds were harvested from the garden by last year's 3rd grade.
***New dates have been added for SRC Demo Trainings in the Spring! Plan ahead - click the link for your grade level to sign up for a training event.***

Log your Volunteer Hours to get more money for our school!
Working for our kids as a volunteer is both rewarding and important. Please log your volunteer hours in our Raptor Portal. The more volunteer hours we log the more money we get from the state.
CFISD has provided an online program to make it easier on volunteers to log and track their
volunteer hours. This program is called Raptor, which is part of the V-Soft security software
that helps keep our schools safe.
Copeland does not have logbooks in the front office to record your hours. So, in order to
log your hours, you will need to establish a raptor account. This is quite easy and will allow
you to log your hours at home.
The steps to register online are as follows:
1. Go to https://www.cfisd.net/en/community-involvement/community-engagement/volunteer/# or click on the "New to Raptor" button below.
2. Complete this form in its entirety and submit (you must have an email address to do this)
3. You will receive an email from support@raptorware.com with your account information and password.
4. Once you receive the email use the button below to log in to your account.
5. Add this website to your favorites (this is where you will log hours)
6. Log in with email and password
7. Select campus
8. Select the tabs you will need
This program will be used to determine volunteer of the month and reporting our total volunteer hours to the district, enabling them to apply for various grants and programs.
