PRINCIPAL AND VICE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Bonny Slope Community,
We are in the middle of our Staff Appreciation week, and we are definitely feeling the love! From yummy donuts to a wide variety of ice cream to a fruit bonanza, all of it has been amazing. These treats have brought so many smiles to our staff and we are very thankful for all of the work put into this week.
With the onset of May, it means that we have state testing. Students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th will be engaging in this yearly assessment of learning. Next week, they will be completing their English/Language Arts tests, and the following week, Math. Parents often ask what they can do at home to support their students. Our advice is simple: make sure your students are getting their required amount of sleep and ensure that students have a good breakfast, either at home or at school. Fulfilling these physical needs goes a long way for our students. Some students express anxiety or worry about the testing. Simply telling them that you know they will do their best, and that you are proud of them, helps reduce some of that pressure they encounter.
And by now, you would have heard our news that both Mrs. Maza and Mr. Hiller are leaving Bonny Slope at the end of the year. Mrs. Maza is going to be the principal at Hiteon Elementary, and Mr. Hiller will serve as principal at Tualatin Elementary in TTSD. It’s bittersweet for both of us to be moving on to new adventures. We have loved our community, especially weathering the challenging times we just went through, and feel bonded to all of you in a way that we couldn’t have predicted. We will work to make sure our new administrators learn about our community, our staff, and all of the fabulous work we’ve accomplished in our time here. Our goal is a smooth transition.
Janet Maza and Jim Hiller
