Reminder: Principals’ Coffee This Week
Our next Lower Elementary Principals’ Coffee is scheduled for January 19, 2016. Our music teachers will be hosting a music education session to introduce parents to the Elementary music curriculum and the role of music in a child’s life.
In addition, we will be introducing a new component to our Principals’ Coffees and that is a Parent Forum. There will be time devoted at every Principals’ Coffee for the remainder of the school year for a Parent Forum, during which the principals will address general themes raised by parents, which have been submitted in advance. Please attend the Principals Coffee for more information.
Change to logging on to NVS
To improve the security of student accounts we are going to change the students' NVS passwords from 12345678 to a unique number for each student. This week, you will get an email containing the new password. This password should be used from then on when you log onto NVS. Grade two does not use NVS often, but starting in upper elementary, it may be used more frequently.
If you have any problems or questions please feel free to contact me directly by email at pblacklock@asd.edu.qa or through your son or daughter's classroom teacher.

Curriculum Updates and Activities
Weekly Math Update
Our next Number Sense unit is in full swing and we're applying a variety of strategies to add and subtract numbers up to 200. Attend Mrs. Little's Math seminar tomorrow morning to learn more.
Weekly Science Update
Science:
We made weather pictographs using a calendar and graphing information. We're looking forward to the Weather Olympics in the lab where we will test all of our meteorological skills!
Weekly Reading and Writing Update
Reading and Writing: Students are enjoying learning about realistic fiction--stories that have characters who usually undergo changes. A problem or conflict makes the plot more exciting, and it's usually resolved in the end. Students are continuing to plan their stories this week. Many have begun their own stories using the tools and techniques of this genre of writing.
Books will not be sent home until tomorrow due to rearrangement of the lower elementary book room.
