Principal's Message
We are very fortunate to have been able to have our sixth graders attend outdoor science camp this week. I was able to be up at camp for a few days and watched the kids excited to meet new friends and learn. Thank you to PFA and the Vista Community for coming together to help raise funds so that our students could have this opportunity. I've enclosed a few photos of our camp experience within this newsletter.
Just a friendly reminder that Heely's skate shoes are not allowed on campus. In order to keep everyone safe, please be sure that your child is not wearing these to school. If a child comes to school with skate shoes, parents will be called to bring an alternate pair of shoes to change into.
For everyone's safety, please be sure not to congregate or walk through the staff parking lot in the afternoon. There are staff members or those with disabled placards that are leaving promptly out of the lot after school. Your efforts in abiding by this request will avoid any potential accidents. Thank you for your continued support.
Warmly,
Mrs. Nuanes

History/Social Science Textbook Adoption
Dear CUSD Families,
Claremont Unified School District is in the process of reviewing publishers for an upcoming History-Social Science textbook adoption for elementary grades. After reviewing the state-adopted History-Social Science framework and hearing from publishers, CUSD teachers representing each school have chosen to pilot two publishers, Studies Weekly and TCI. The window of time to pilot TCI is January through March. To gather community input on the two piloted publishers, CUSD will be hosting preview nights for parents and guardians to learn about the curriculum and share their thoughts on each set of textbooks.
The TCI preview night will take place on Wednesday, February 1 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Board Room of the District Office. Please join us to learn more about the curriculum and provide your feedback for teachers to use when considering which publisher to adopt. For planning purposes, please RSVP here: https://forms.gle/AaPPznR4pdQL9jZo8
For more information and to provide feedback on the two piloted publishers, please check out the CUSD website by visiting www.cusd.claremont.edu, choosing ‘Departments,’ ‘Educational Services,’ and clicking on the ‘History Social Science K-6 Adoption’ link.

Attendance Matters!
If your child is not feeling well, you can check for a fever and/or check illness with a COVID test. If they are fever free or have a negative COVID test, please encourage your child to come to school. When students understand the importance of regular school attendance, they view school as important and will create healthy habits and expectations about school.
Please avoid scheduling doctor or dentist appointments during the school day as to not interrupt your child's learning. Keep in mind that family vacations during the school year, are unexecused absences. Together, we can help set your child up for success!
