Since last we connected, I've coached executive leaders from New York to The Netherlands, facilitated a resiliency workshop for government employees, presented to women business entrepreneurs, lead rooms full of coaches, facilitated a business immersion retreat, mentored developing entrepreneurs, danced with veterans, took a flying lesson in a two-seater prop plane, learned how to make bread, met with my new book publisher and grew a bed of wildflowers. Have you considered that Chaos is Untethered Creativity?
Life is all about the hinges, the doors we open to opportunity and the doors we close to catastrophe. How do you know when it's time to use the hinge to open or close access to another frame of mind? How do you know when it's "enough"?
Mindfulness is your key to sanity and success. Mindfulness is awakened decision-making. Mindfulness is the hinge. Mindfulness allows you to transform chaos into creativity. Mindfulness makes messes useful. How do you awaken the senses to be mindful? Just like any journey, you map it. But to get there, first you must start by measuring stress. But... how do you do that??
Stress is a funny thing. It's important because it keeps us safe, let's us know when we're near danger. It also helps us do stuff and get things done, like a deadline. Stress drives us. But it can also alter our sense of common sense and mess with our perspective of reality. We don't know when we're used to living in a high state of stress until it's too late, blown up, broke down or gone off the deep end and allowed chaos to take us down-- allowed stress to change us.
How do you know the line of enough if you don't have any markers to measure stress in the first place? We do not know what we have gotten used to until we look. Begin practicing mindfulness by collecting data. Look and listen to your inner environment (your body, the way you feel, your mind-talk, behaviors) and the information outside of yourself, your external environment (physical spaces, relationship and stuff). Learning the language of stress takes some time just like learning any foreign language.
Start by asking... "On a scale of 1-10, how stressed am I? ..... On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being reaction and chaos and 1 being calm and response... how stressed am I?" Once you begin to awaken to your own stress language, you can become fluent in creating with life's edges and have more fun even in the presence of tough times.
We're so stressed, we don't know we're stressed! Pressure changes everything. Overtime the Grand Canyon was formed, overtime stress can alter our reality and experience of life itself. In an instant or overtime we can be thrown into chaos or merge into a state calm. Do you have the resiliency tools to cope and create with chaos? Are you able to move from chaos to calm?
Dare to be with "what is"-- the mess, the beauty and the chaos of life. Feel your feelings, learn to sit with the chaos, learn tiny ways to be still and calm regardless of all it. This practice will change you and help you move from chaos to calm, leading change from the inside out. Not only will this change you, it will change the world we all live in for the better. I’ll be right here, doing the same thing.
Why is this important? Stress is the number one indicator that we need something. By first measuring stress, we can access a deeper need and fulfill a deeper meaning. Stress is the door that leads to a new frame of mind. Remember, we’re all in this together until we're not. Until then, I invite you to play with the edges of life.

Where are you going?
- What needs movement?
- What needs slowing down?
- What needs organizing?
- Where have you lost your firm grip on ground?
- What or who needs forgiveness at this time?
- What are you giving birth to, literally, metaphorically, symbolically?
- What are you most angry at? And what might you do to creatively transform this energy into an action that produces feel-good results for you and others around you?
