Jag E-News
Week of November 14, 2022
Hello Jags,
Even though last week was a short week, we had a busy week at SMS. Our boys basketball team kicked off their season with their first home game on Wednesday evening, our Fines Art Department hosted our Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, and over 60 of our student leaders traveled to Camp Cho Yeh on Saturday for a day of team building and adventure with LeadWorthy, Student Council, National Junior Honor Society & PALS.
We want to say thank you to Mrs. Amos and her team for putting together the Veterans Day Assembly that welcomed Jaguar family members and community members from all branches of the military to our school to be recognized for their service to our country. Our band, choir, theatre, and art students did an incredible job honoring veterans with their performances.
This week we will celebrate Kindness Week on campus and students and staff members will have the opportunity to participate in various activities as they share kindness with the people around them. Our PTO is also hosting their annual Pies from Parents event as we prepare for Thanksgiving Break and they would love your help sending each of our teachers and staff members home with a pie at the end of this week.
As we wrap up this week, I also ask that you consider nominating a teacher for Teacher of the Month. This is a unique opportunity made possible by Pizza Hut & the Houston Rockets and we would love your help in recognizing our teachers for the work they do every day with students.
Sincerely,
Cholly Oglesby
Principal

The parent webinar will be held on Wednesday, November 16th at 6 p.m. Whole Child Health, focuses on Whole Child Health, is aligned with FBISD's Profile of a Graduate, and is committed to supporting and developing the mental, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical health of all students in FBISD. Academy Applications
Fort Bend ISD High School Academies exist to provide specialized learning communities with concentrated and robust course pathways comprised of career and academic classes.
These specialized academies exist at the high school level to provide focused study and services, launching our students toward careers and college pathways in a number of highly skilled and competitive areas. All of these programs are offered through an application process, which includes a combination of academic performance data, test scores and interviews.
Students apply for high school academies as 8th graders. Students will receive an email with their test or interview dates. Students must reside in the FBISD attendance zone during this application window in order to apply. Students may not apply and will not be accepted outside of this process. In order to properly staff our programs, create schedules, and train staff we must limit the application period for all specialized programs. There are no exceptions to this policy. Applications are due December 9, 2022.
FORT BEND ISD FILM FEST
The Fort Bend ISD Film Fest is an annual competition hosted each year by the district for students and teachers of FBISD. Entries may be made in several digital media categories and projects are due March 1, 2023. Categories include Documentaries, Animations, and Narratives (long or short films). There are also opportunities to submit for Photography and Digital Media. Please see the Film Fest web page for details on submissions, rules, and rubrics!
