Weekly Message
Dear Raleigh Hills Staff,
Lucy Calkins calls teaching a calling. That has been readily apparent to me as I have watched this staff do their best for kids every day since March 13th. Education isn't a job, a vocation, or a career. It's a calling. Whether I ask you to change from Phase 2 to Phase 3 in a week or to take a risk by submitting a Masked Singer video, you rise to it! You have more than met my expectations for how to care for your class and each other, all while turning your bedroom into a classroom. You've invited families into your homes, you've delivered meals, you've gotten students connected to wifi, all while home-schooling your own children. You read these super-long Saturday Scoops! You will have my life-long admiration. Thanks for being in the trenches with me. Please take care of yourselves over the 4-day weekend. You deserve it.
Warmly,
Jennifer

Map
Thank you to everyone who shared ideas for a map of the building. It was really fun to look those over and get ideas from you. I was going to share a few of them out, but then today at the scheduling meeting a really interesting wrinkle got thrown into the mix. What would it look like if music came into the building. I don't know if this could happen, but if you want to take a stab at it, send me your ideas. It might be fun!
- all classrooms should be inside the building with access to sinks for safety
- all teams should be together
- maps should be labeled with grade levels rather than teacher names
Announcements
Report Cards
Teachers will have until the end of the Monday grading day on June 15 to complete their report cards. Beginning 8:00 AM on the 16th, IT will begin the process of posting online which can take a day or two. They are working on speeding up this process. Parents should be able to view their child’s report card starting on June 18 at the latest. When a school’s report cards are posted, IT will send out a SM notification to the parents. June 15 will continue to be the teacher’s report card prep day.
IT Summer Changes
IT has prepared the IT 20-21 Changes Document with important information for staff regarding a number of technology updates. This document will be updated frequently over the coming weeks. Please review this document periodically to understand important technology changes for summer and next year.
Summer Reading at the Public Library
Includes information regarding public library summer reading programs, recommended reading lists, new OBOB and ORCA title lists, how to access the district’s eBook library, and BINGO. It might be good to share these links with your families.
Required Elementary SpEd Classified Training
The Special Education Department will be hosting 2 required Special Education Classified Professional Development days during the 2020-21 school year. These two days will be held during elementary conference days. Elementary schools will still have 2 days from conferences to use at their discretion with classified personnel.
Camp Achieve Nominations
We will be having Camp Achieve for rising 1st through 5th graders this summer. It will be 8 weeks long and fully online. If you signed up to teach, you should be receiving information soon. Cost to families for participation is $10/child. We will be limited in the number of students that we can nominate to attend Camp Achieve so I am including a form here. You can nominate any student from your class or those you work with (ELD and SPED should feel free to nominate students). If we get too many, I will prioritize those who were successful at connecting during distance learning. I'm extending the deadline for this to Tuesday at 4pm.
Schedule Committee
The schedule committee met and I was able to get input from classroom teachers, specialists and classified staff. We realized that next year, we will need to take a look at making balanced classes in Middle School and trying to block primary, intermediate and middle school together to make transitions for specialists a bit better. We talked about possibly making specials shorter for K-2 with a split schedule. We also discussed what it might look like at RH if we didn't return to business as usual right away. What came out of the discussion is that we'd like to wait a bit to do a draft of the schedule to see if we can get a few more details about next year. That may mean that we need to have some optional Zoom meetings in the summer to take a look at drafts. I will keep you updated about this.
Student Success Framework
I wanted to remind you about this document. Per the certified contract, I need to get your input about it each year. I thought it might be good if I put it on your radar. If you have ideas about improvements or adjustments, please add them to this form. I will need all feedback by June 1.
End of Year Survey - Input for Next year
I am including an end-of-year survey for you fill out. I will miss having sit-down meetings with each of you to talk about your yearly growth and share successes. Given that, and the fact that we will have to teach our hearts out next year, I'd love to get your thoughts about what the focus of our year should be. This survey will be due on June 8th, but I'm including it here so you can complete it as you have time.
Supply Lists for Next Year
Think about your supply list. I know we talked about this at the staff meeting. If you think you know what you will be asking for, feel free to send it to me and copy Yvett and Vicki. We are going to start talking about school-wide supplies for the school for next year so we can get our lists ready. As soon as I can begin to order things, I will. It will be nice to know what you're asking families for so we can see what we'll need to have on hand. You might consider individual supplies, hand sanitizer, clorox wipes and masks. I'll ask for your best ideas by Monday, June 15th. If you happen to know about this earlier, the PTO would like to order supply boxes as they have in years' past. I told them we might not have the info in time for that, but if you think you know, send your supply lists in. Otherwise, I will tell them hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, masks and nitrile gloves.
