Virtual Celebrations FAQ:
Who can access the events?
The 8th grade dance is only open to 8th grade students from Deal, but the 8th grade promotion ceremony is open to students, family, and community members. The link provided will be accessible to anyone interested in attending.
Will the events be recorded for later viewing?
The promotion ceremony will be recorded for later viewing, but the dance will be a live event and only viewable from 6-8pm on Thursday, May 28th.
How much does it cost?
Thanks to the generous support of our ADCA and the efforts of volunteers and staff, both these events are free.
What should my student wear?
Anything they want! Participants will not be able to view each other during the dance or promotion ceremony. That said, families may want to set up viewing parties with their friends and students are encouraged to use these events as excuse to show off their new dancing shoes on social media.
What if we want to watch with friends?
Sharing the fun with friends is part of what makes promotion and the 8th grade dance fun! Although we can't meet in person, families may opt to set up virtual watch parties through video-chat platforms (FaceTime and Zoom are two examples). Both events will be streamed live so our community can share the experience during the first viewing. The promotion will be available for later viewing.
Any tips for watch parties?
Choose a platform that is safe and review the system's privacy controls. Zoom, Google Hangout, FaceTime, and other video conferences services can be safe if used properly. Families may choose to monitor the party by keeping devices in a shared room. Additionally, although the events will be live, individual devices may see the live events with some delay. For the best shared experience and to avoid lag between devices in different households, having the meeting host share their screen is a good way to make sure all participants see the same event at the same time.
Thank you for all your support this year and we hope you enjoy the celebrations!

SAAM book!
Hello, Alice Deal!
I had hoped to be able to say this to you in person. I hope, though, that you will accept a digital "thank you" for your opinions, your hard questions, and the inquiry that you did when we visited you at school and when you came to SAAM. You bring life and liveliness to our museum.
Thank you for the thinking you did at school and home when you crafted vignettes and artwork, diary entries, poems. Each writing shared your voice and vision.
Every year, we at SAAM truly look forward to reading these works, binding them into books, and celebrating you at our traditional closing event. When it became apparent that this year we wouldn't be able to host you in person, we tried to think of ways to honor the work you had done. We wanted to create something that could reach you at home, be shareable for distant family and friends, and look polished and fun at the same time.
So, we submit to you... an online book of your work: https://www.flipsnack.com/886897E569B/team-hong-kong-fzc9ehh7e/full-view.html
We will miss hearing you read your own words in all their fullness. We'll miss sharing time together in our galleries, listening to your conversations with family and friends. I'll even miss picking up space after you're gone!
Please come back when it is safe to do so. Bring your challenging queries, bring a friend, bring a sketchbook. Please just fill our space up with your wonderful selves!
In the meantime, thank you for the work that you've done. Take care of yourselves and know that I'm cheering you on through this strange time.
With my gratitude,
Elizabeth
