Terry A.M Sankey - Available for your Events
Terry has for nearly forty years been providing entertaining and interesting speeches in many and varied venues to large and small gatherings of diverse people .
Terry is widely read and has travelled extensively, has wide ranging interests and brings a reflective slant on life.
He was for twelve years Head of Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care at HMP Dorchester where he was a member of the Senior Management Team and was seen as a powerful force for change in the prison and beyond. He was responsible for pastoral care to the whole establishment including Governors, staff, prisoners and their families, as well as the inevitable meeting of endless targets!
Terry started The Footprints Project that has it's head offices in Dorchester. This pioneering project was set up to provide fully trained volunteer mentors and practical support to those being released from custody before mentoring became popular. It has now grown to cover the whole of Dorset, Bournemouth, Poole and South Somerset.
It works with both male and female offenders and with all the prisons releasing into the community.
He has specialist knowledge and insights on: Crime and Disorder, Restorative Justice as well as Drug and Alcohol Addiction. He was described by a former Governor of HMP Dorchester as "Having a passion for people and getting things changed".
He is a powerful and inspiring speaker with relevant information anecdotes and well researched factual content.
Terry Sankey has been married for over thirty seven years. Alison, his wife is a senior consultant psychiatrist in Southampton working with the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) . Those who know Terry well think he is fortunate and needs to have his own full time psychiatrist! They live in Salisbury and have three grown up children.
Prior to a change of direction in the late '80's.' he was a building surveyor and senior partner of Homeline Property Services, in Bristol where he had lived since before his marriage. He was brought up (or dragged up!) in Sussex.
Terry has been retired from the Prison Service for two years and is enjoying his freedom! He loves sailing and is a member of Christchurch Sailing Club where he keeps his Westerly Pageant which is aptly named "Close to the Wind".
