A Gentle Reminder
Math
Soon we will be begin a new cluster of study which will revisit place value. We will use place value to aid us in adding and subtracting whole numbers, being able to read and write multi-digit whole numbers in all forms, comparing number values and multi-step word problems.
English/Language Arts
We are continuing with our novel, Esperanza Rising. In whole group, we are still focusing on vocabulary, comprehension, character, plot, and setting. We will also add point of view, theme, and summarizing. In small groups, we are focusing on target skills for each student.
In writing, we are now concentrating on forming cohesive paragraphs that center around one main idea. We will then transition to writing multiple paragraphs on a topic in the narrative domain. It is so wonderful to see how student written responses have improved. It is now uncommon for me to work with students on capitalization, punctuation, and sentence structure on assignments. This is great progress. We have a way to go, but the change so far has been terrific.
Science
We will begin our new cluster of study talking about Various Forms of Energy and their interaction with matter. This subject will focus specifically on light, sound, heat, electrical and magnetic energy.
