Dear Storm Families,
This fall has been busy and full of many wonderful things for the Storm Community. We have had numerous groups, teams, and individuals recognized for their outstanding academic, artistic and athletic accomplishments. Skyview is truly a special place.
We are now more than halfway through our first semester, which ends January 23, 2019. We want to see all of our students finish the semester as strong as possible. A couple of reminders about supporting your student academically:
· We offer 30 minutes each day, “Storm Time,” where students can get extra help and retake assessments. Please encourage your son or daughter to use this opportunity wisely.
· Skyward Parent Access – we encourage all families to monitor their student’s grades.
· Thursday after school Math homework help is available! Students can talk with Ms. Azorr to sign up.
· Attendance Matters! Please encourage and support good attendance. Attendance is one of the most significant variables in student performance.
· Support healthy habits by making sure students are getting adequate sleep and eating well.
As the weather gets colder, you can stay up-to-date on school delays and closures by signing up for “FlashAlert.” There is a link on Vancouver Public Schools website www.vansd.org to register for “FlashAlert.” This will give you the most up to date info and keep our phone lines open for other essential communication.
Winter break is just around the corner. School will be closed December 23rd through January 3rd.
This winter will bring many performances, games and competitions. Skyview has a great reputation for strong community and family support at events. Please help support our students by modeling the core values of Trust, Integrity and Excellence. I hope to see you at a performance or game and look forward to continuing to work with your child, their teachers and the people who support them. If you ever have questions or concerns, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Andy Meyer – Principal

Dear Families of SHS,
Did you know December is intoxicated driving awareness month?
*Car crashes are the No. 1 killer of teens in the U.S.
*Most teen crashes occur on the weekends, when teens are too busy having fun to pay attention to their driving.
*Eight teens die every day in DUI crashes.
Parents and family have the greatest influence over a teen’s substance use. Studies show teens who live in households with strong boundaries and rules surrounding substance use are less likely to use illicit substances.
Talk to your teen and talk often!
