Science Rules!

STAAR

Amazingly, 2 of the 3 STAAR tests are NEXT WEEK! STAAR Math is on Tuesday, March 29 and STAAR Reading is on Wednesday, March 30. Students will take the STAAR Science in May.

On testing days, please be sure your child is at school, well rested, and pencils ready to do their best. We test reading and math earlier because students must pass these tests in order to move on to the 6th grade. If a child is unsuccessful on either test, they will take a second administration in May.

Passmore is a closed campus on all STAAR days. Parents cannot eat with their children and it is best that students come to school with their lunches or buy their lunch. If you drop items off in the office, it is difficult to get them to the students due to testing.

BEHAVIOR IS CRUCIAL!

Skating Party

Every year 5th grade is treated to a special skating event by our wonderful parent organization PALS. This year the skating party is planned for Thursday, May 26. This is a reward for all the effort 5th graders put forth during their last year at Passmore.

PARENTS: Behavior is a factor in earning the skating party. If a student has behavioral issues, this privilege may be taken away.

Look for more details in the Tuesday folder soon.

COMING SOON: Buddy Day-May 17, 2016

Natural Bridge Caverns

Over the last decade, my husband and I have treated 5th grades to a special opportunity. We offer an OPTIONAL Saturday field trip to Natural Bridge Caverns, which is located just outside of San Antonio. This trip usually costs around $25, plus the price of food, snacks, and souvenirs. We leave out early and come home late!

I am in the process of planning the trip. It is on a first come, first served, sign up, once the paperwork goes home. Bus space is usually limited. I have taken as many as 79 students, but, this year, we will only have one bus.

The tentative date is Saturday, May 7, 2016. Be on the lookout for more information in the Tuesday Folder.

Make Up Work-Absences

I know it feels like the year is drawing to a close, but let me assure you, we are in the LONG HAUL right now! We have hit testing season head on, and the curriculum is getting tough in order to prepare your child for the rigor of junior high. Please, do not miss school unless it is absolutely necessary. Absences need to be kept under control. If your child is absent, please, send a note.

When a student is absent, they are responsible for making up all of their missed assignments. Students have an equal number of days to make up work for each day they are absent. For example, if your child misses 2 school days, they have 2 school days to make up their missing assignments. Be sure to check TEAMS for grades to ensure your child is not falling behind.

A little Kid President for End of the Year Inspiration

Kid President is BACK with BIG NEWS!

Did I mention, "I LOVE SYMBALOO!"?

For each unit of study, I will have a SYMBALOO prepared. A SYMBALOO is a page where I can place digital content that will help your child further their knowledge on the topic we are studying in class. SYMBALOO can be accessed from any internet ready device. Each SYMBALOO has a link and all links are recorded in the science journal on the last page. Students can also use the SYMBALOO pages to help study and review content as we get closer to STAAR testing time.

Remind

I encourage you to sign up for the Remind alerts. This is an excellent way to stay up to date with things going on at school in our specific classrooms. You only need to sign up for your child's homeroom teacher. Please join!
