Roadrunner Report
October 1, 2021
Hi Aspen Families!
Here are some updates and important information:
October is Bullying Prevention Month
Students will be participating in lessons and activities all month long to learn about preventing childhood bullying and promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion in schools, homes, and communities.
Try some of these ideas to help our world be a more welcoming and inclusive place for everyone:
- Hold the door for someone
- Reach out to tell someone they are important to you
- Thank someone for doing something they do for you every day
- Learn to say hello in other languages
Together we can create communities that are kinder, more inclusive and accepting for all students. Learn what you can do at https://www.pacer.org/bullying/
Socktober!
To kick off Student Council this year, Aspen will be participating in Socktober. SOCKTOBER is an annual, month-long campaign designed to show people that ordinary acts of love can make a big difference. It can all start with socks. During the month of October we would like to collect new socks for the homeless. If you are interested in contributing new socks for men, women, children and babies, please bring them to Room 10 (Mrs. Birg) or drop them off in the office.
Room 20 Restaurant Night Fundraiser - 10/13
Hear ye! Hear ye! Come one, come all to Sharky's on Moorpark Boulevard to support Shakespeare on Wednesday, October 13th, during parent conference week. Sharky's will donate 20% of the cost of your meal from 11:00 AM-8:00 PM, so come by at lunch, for an afternoon snack, for dinner, or all of the above. Join the Aspen community to share a meal and to support the theater arts. Huzzah!!!
Hero's Heart Award
In Partnership with Los Robles Health System: Hero’s Heart Award - Nominate Your Favorite Teacher!
As a means of expressing their gratitude to local teachers, Los Robles Health System is hosting a Hero's Heart Award for community members to nominate teachers that, "demonstrate the meaning of having a 'heart of gold.'" Nominations may be submitted online prior to the Friday, October 15th deadline. Prizes will be awarded to each Hero selected. Learn more here.

Support Our School Campaign
Thank you to those families who have already donated to the “Support Our School” campaign! Our goal this year is to reach 100% participation. We are currently only at 23% and would love to see that Roadrunner spirit and pride! We need your help to fund critical parts of Aspen such as:
*Salaries of Dance, PE, Art, and Computer Specialists
*Instructional funds for class materials
*Instructional Support Staff
*Assemblies
*School-wide events.
If you received an email from Kiley Duncan, you have confirmation that you have already donated - thank you to those families! We will be also having a friendly competition for this campaign. The class with the highest participation percentage will get to attack Mr. Craven with silly string (1 class TK-2nd and 1 class 3rd-5th). WOW! So far, Mrs. Kneller and Mrs. Birg's classes have the lead! Please check the donation tracker out front of the school to see our latest standings.
To donate now, please click on this link: https://aspenpfa.square.site/ or print out the attached form and send it back to school with cash/check. Remember, no amount is too small and we are appreciative of anything you can give. Thank you!
Box Tops
Thank you for continuing to play the Box Tops Game! We have earned over $7300 in a very short time! The game is slowing itself down because the prizes need to last until November 30. We are winning less but we are still winning! You may get "Try Again" repeatedly but please continue to play 20 times per day. Please use the four original codes on the flyer. In addition to winning money for Aspen, you can win gift cards for yourself! One lucky Aspen parent won a $500 Walmart gift card and several more have won $25 gift cards! With every entry, you are also entered to win the grand prize of $10,000 for Aspen and $10,000 for yourself!
Screen Recycling
Earn 2,000 points per screen for Aspen when you recycle any laptop, monitor, TV or tablet from now until October 22. Please drop off items in the technology box in the office and we will take care of everything else! Please email aspenschoolrewards@gmail.com to arrange pick up of larger screens.
