The Prugh Crew

Week of April 27th

Learning Targets

Reading and Writing:

We will be reading Fairy Tales with a Texas twist this week to go along with our Social Studies unit about Texas.

Students will compare the Texas version of the fairy tale with the original, making text to text connections. Later in the week they will each write their very own "Texas" fairy tale.

We will take our May iStation assessment on Friday.

Spelling: say, other, very, full, gave, love, hour, house, shower, power

Use this link to practice your spelling words online:

word family: ou/ow

Grammar: review (subject/predicate)

Students will continue to practice how to measure using non-standard units. They will also compare the lengths of two objects and describe how the measurements differ.

On Wednesday, we will begin our time unit and students will learn how to tell time to the hour and half hour.

Students will take the end of year TEMI this week - Texas Elementary Math Inventory.

We will learn about the way animals are classified.

I do not assign weekly homework. I expect my first graders to study their weekly spelling words, log into iStation for 30 minutes per week, and read at least 15-20 minutes per night. Please let me know if you are having problems logging in.

There is also an iStation app available to students.

They may read with you, to you, or on their own. I hope they play outside, with friends, and try some extra curricular activities too.
