Oak Ridge Elementary 2018-19

Welcome to ORE!

My name is Tami Eldridge and I get the privilege of being the principal at this amazing school! I am entering my fifth year as principal here. I am very excited about the beginning of school as it marks the start of things new. As the start date draws closer, I'm reminded of the excitement that we all experience. The night before school starts, sometimes that excitement turns to butterflies in our stomach that might cause anxiety. Keep in mind that this is normal and that we all experience whether we are school staff, students or parents. We ask that you take time to encourage your children as they enter into a new year of school about all the fun learning that will take place. We can't wait to see you all soon!

Registration and SnapCode

Registration is all online this school year. If you were registered or enrolled in Oak Ridge last school year, you should have received an email from the district including something called a SnapCode. This gives you access to your online information so that you can make any changes needed and/or complete other forms online. It is important that you take care of this before the school year starts so that we have current contact information for you.

SCHOOL START TIME CHANGE

Please note that our school start time has changed for this school year. We will be going to school from 8:00 - 3:10. Students will be tardy at 8:01 a.m. and will be considered absent at 9:00 a.m.

Transportation

Students within the one mile radius of the school are not eligible for bus service. If you live outside that one mile radius and your child needs bus service, you must register them for transportation on the district's main website at www.conroeisd.net. If your child goes to an address other than your home, you MUST complete and Alternate Address form. This form can be obtained from the front office and must be returned to the front office.


PK/KINDER STUDENTS:

Policy states that all PK/Kinder students must be met by an adult when dropped off at their stops. If no adult is present, the child will be returned to school and the parent or other designee will have to come to school to pick up the child.


FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL:

Please note that buses run extremely late the first week or two of school. Please be patient when waiting on your child. The reason they run late is that the drivers are learning the routes and ensuring the right adult is at the stop to pick up the PK/Kinder students.


CAR RIDER:

We have a very structured car rider line and once we get past the first couple of weeks of school, the line moves rather quickly in both the morning and the afternoon. In the morning, we ask that parents not park and walk children to the school. However, if there is a special situation and you must walk your child to the front, park in the outer front lot and walk your child all the way to the door. Children are not allowed to be dropped off in the parking lot and cross the car rider line on their own. In the afternoon, parents are not allowed to walk up and obtain a child from the car rider line. All afternoon traffic must go through the line in order to pick up a child.


CAR RIDER LINE PATTERN:

We have a very specific pattern for our car rider line that ensures a quicker process. If you are entering the car rider line for the northbound feeder road, please enter from Oak Ridge School Road (between the hotel and Saltgrass) instead of our driveway. This helps eliminate the back up on the feeder road and reduces the safety issue of cars being stacked up on the feeder road. See map below.


WALKERS/BIKE RIDERS:

In order to be a walker/bike rider, students must life within the one mile radius and therefore, not be eligible for bus service. If you do not live within that one mile radius, your child will not be dismissed as a walker/bike rider.

PARENT INFORMATION/TITLE ONE NIGHT

Our Parent Information/Title One Night will be held on September 20 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. This is different from Meet the Teacher in that it will be your opportunity to hear the expectations from the teachers for the year and sign up for a fall conference. This is a great time of learning for parents and it is my desire to have as many of you attend as possible so please mark the date on your calendar.

STUDENT HANDOOK

The student handbook can be accessed online at www.conroeisd.net under the Parent/Student tab. Once you establish a Parent Access account, there is a place to electronically sign that you have reviewed the handbook. Please take time to create that account, if you have not already done so, and then sign electronically that you have reviewed the handbook. If you would like a paper copy of the handbook, please drop by the front office and notify us of that. We will be happy to get you a paper copy with a receipt form.

ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

All communication from the school will be electronic this school year. In order to stay well informed, please ensure that the campus has your most current email address on file.

PTO

Joining our parent/teacher organization is a great way to get involved in helping keep our school great. PTO board members will be available at Teddy Bear Tea, Meet the Teacher and Parent Information Night for you to join. The membership is $5 per family. Also take advantage of the many opportunities to volunteer at different events throughout the year.

BOOSTERTHON

PTO will kick off the school year with their first fundraiser of the year in partnership with Boosterthon. We will kick off this event on August 22 with the pep rally and conclude it on August 31 with the Fun Run. This year we will be doing the Fun Run in the gym and it will be a "glow in the dark" theme.

VOLUNTEERING

Each year, in order to volunteer at ORE, parents and other family members must complete a volunteer application with the district. Please take time to complete that using the link below.

LUNCH INFORMATION

The cost of breakfast and lunch has remained the same as last year. The cost of breakfast is $1.35 and the lunch price is $2.85. Child Nutrition has an online system for parents to apply money to their child's account. The system website is www.myschoolbucks.com. Parents with existing accounts will receive an email directly from the company with information. Parent will need to create a new account if you do not already have one. There will be a $1.95 charge per credit card transaction.

FREE/REDUCED LUNCH

Just a reminder that Free/Reduced lunch status must be applied for yearly. The sooner you apply will hopefully ensure no interruption. You can apply online at the following link https://www.myschoolapps.com/. If you need assistance, Virginia Vera, PEIMS/registrar, will be happy to assist you.

ATTENDANCE

It is very important that your child be at school daily, on time and stay until the day ends. We maximize our instruction time and if your child consistently comes in late or leaves early, they are missing valuable instruction. If they miss school consistently for full days, they are missing great instruction that cannot be repeated. Thus, we ask that in order to help good work ethic in your child, you support our effort to have them here every day, on time and stay until the last of the day.
